VVVVVV is a retro styled 2D platformer by Terry Cavanagh, creator of dozens of free games. You play as the fearless leader of a team of dimension exploring scientists who inadvertently crash, and are separated. The game involves exploring the strange world you've found yourself in, and reuniting your friends. VVVVVV explores one simple game mechanic: you cannot jump - instead, you reverse your own gravity at the press of a button. The game focuses on playing with this mechanic in a variety of interesting ways. The game is designed not to artificially gate your progress. In VVVVVV there are no locks, no power-ups, no switches, nothing to stop you progressing except the challenges themselves.
vvvvvv is the kind of platformer you cant put down.
It gets tough but you can't quit till the save point. But when you get to the save point its easy so you think "ok im gonna play a little more, just to explore a bit". Then it gets hard again. So you think "Well I can't quit now. Not till I get to the next save game" Next day your still fixated on the screen. Adictive is not a strong enough word. Easy to pick up, hard to put down and full of great 2d platforming innovation. Highly recommended.
VVVVVV (Yeah that's 6 V's) is probably the coolest and most nostalgic game out there. It is fun, grabbing the good and old fast-pacing and spikes everywhere and combining with the retro video game music we all love, and yeah, it is THAT hard.
