This video demonstrates the use of the mine launcher. Want to deny an enemy fleet somewhere? Blockade it with mines! This demonstrates the mines and not the AI, in the final game they will have some form of mine avoidance, or they might just be kamikaze who knows!
The mine will destroy fighters, but will only severely damage capital ships, but that is subject to change in level of damage for capitals. They too will use the capacitor which powers your ships offensive/defensive systems, so no mine spamming!
Part 3 tomorrow will demonstrate point defense to a further extent and recap the first two weapons briefly.
