Verdun is the first multiplayer FPS set in a realistic First World War setting. The merciless trench warfare offers a unique battlefield experience, immersing you and your squad into intense battles of attack and defense.
The game takes place on the western front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history. The developers were inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun France in 1916. The game includes many historically accurate features such as realistic WW1 weaponry, authentic uniforms and maps based on the real battlefields of France and Belgium.
The Frontlines game mode is unique in its tactical complexity. The realistic trenches are challenging to fight in and require tactical cunning to capture and defend. The Entente and Central Powers strive to gain control of frontline sectors. One battle you’re rushing the enemy trenches during an offensive battle in order to gain ground. In another battle you might be defending your recently conquered ground against an enemy counter-attack.
Players can choose to be part of one of the many squad-types in the game, each of whom have their own distinct tactical role. By working together with your friends, you can earn experience that improves the power and versatility of your squad. As you gain more experience fighting and get promoted in rank, you also earn Career Points which you can use to unlock specializations, weapons and equipment. The Rifle Deathmatch is a free-for-all game mode, where all players are pitted against each other in a thrilling contest of skill using only bolt-action rifles.

Verdun key features include:

  • Realistic World War 1 gameplay: Authentic weaponry with realistic bullet physics, skill based weapon handling, poisonous gas with a claustrophobic gas mask experience and artillery barrages
  • Tactical squad-based FPS: Unique squad leveling system, distinct squad types and roles, voice chat
  • True trench warfare: Real-time dynamic frontline with momentum-based attack and counter-attack gameplay
  • Authentic World War 1 setting: Typical WW1 music and style, historical battlefields set on the Western Front
  • Challenging game modes: Team-based Frontline and skill-based Rifle Deathmatch

There is an exciting new update for Verdun with massive graphical map updates and a new game mode called Attrition!

This update will give you a small taste of what is coming.. as we didn’t want you to wait much longer for something new to explore. We are in the meantime working hard on the four big updates as promised and for this we even expanded our ‘Verdun development team’ with more game specialists.

Excitement awaits you in the new gamemode!

Attrition Warfare
Attrition Warfare is a tactic used in battle to wear the enemy down through continuous losses in personnel and material. This tactic, often used in World War 1, is translated into the game as follows;

The Entente and the Central Power each start with a number of reinforcement tickets. These represent the amount of manpower that each side has at its disposal. Every time a player is killed and respawns, a ticket is deducted from the side he belongs to. The goal of the game is to diminish the opposing side’s tickets before losing all the tickets on your side, because you cannot respawn anymore if there are no more tickets. These battles are quick, fun, bloody… And guess what? You can play with all the different WW1 weaponry available in Verdun!

Massive map graphical update
In addition to the new game mode, our artists have been working on upgrading the levels in Verdun with new visuals. The goal was to enhance the immersion into the world by adding a lot more scenery. In great detail scenes from the trenches have been recreated. Great care has been given to portraying the everyday elements such as rations and sleeping quarters. Next to that you will be able to find stories and scenarios when wandering around the battlefield, traces of battles fought on the same grounds. All of this has been created with the stunning physics based rendering, truly enhancing the quality of the different materials shown, be it leather items or reflecting metals. Enhancing the details in the maps was a big step forward in our project as they only barely resemble the maps from the earlier stages.

Game improvements
Apart from a new game mode and the graphical map updates we of course also did some bug fixing and made some improvements after community feedback. Our anti-cheat system is updated, the sniper scope is smoother and no longer shows artifacts, Killstreak now also counts when the players is still alive at the endmatch, etc. For more information check out the
changelog .

All in all we hope you like this update, and keep an eye open as you might find some teasers already in-game for the big updates..

Hello. I have a message for the developers.

I'd like to say that the game is just amazing. I've not once have had so much fun with a simulator. I happily bought the game, and I hope it remains a PAID game, NOT F2P. You DESERVE the cash, regardless of what a bunch of punks say. The game truly feels like a good and accurate simulation of trench warfare, even in just a beta stage.

I truly love the game. Been playing it for hours and haven't gotten bored. I probably WONT get bored. It's one of the best indie games, and I'm truly happy to have purchased. From the love of your community, I say this: Thank you for providing us with such a great example of an indie game.

yes, we are working on manual bolting. Damage of the weapons is already pretty hardcore in that everything (minus arms and legs) is lethal most of the time. The sight/breathing system will be tweaked as well as to allow for more tactical/realism gameplay we envisage. Also crosshairs can be disabled and are already off for some weapons.
