Verdun
Verdun is a first person shooter set in the first world war' Based on the amazing ogre3D rendering engine'

Nations
The first versions of Verdun will feature 3 factions directly involved in the battle of Verdun' Find yourself in the epic struggle around the fortresses of Verdun in 1916 as either a French or a German soldier' Or see action as a rookie American marine in the Meuse Argonne offensive in 1918'

Later on, Verdun will also include the British, Canadian, ANZAC and Belgian forces in the western front battles of the Somme, Ypres, Vimy and Cambrai' In later releases we are especially interested in the Italian front with fighting between the Italian and Austria-Hungarian forces in mountainious settings' The lesser known battles of the eastern front will not be forgotten; not to mention the Mesopotamian and Galipoli front' With the community growing and with more people on the team this shouldn't be hard to realize soon'

Locations
In Verdun a variety of locations will be offered' You will meet your opponent in the shell-torn landscapes which dominated the Verdun salient' Maps that are going to be added contain names like Cote 304, Mort Homme and Fort Vaux/Douaumont for the French/German 1916 campaign' Trench warfare will be the main theme of this campaign with claustrofobic close combat, nightly trench raids, and massive infantry charges' Indoor locations like Fort Vaux and Douaumont, as well as some destroyed villages will be featured'

The American part will have a different theme, this time the front is more mobile' You will see the Meuse Argonne battle first hand while entering the Argonne forest, clearing huge bunker complexes' Another part will be the Meuse plains behind the Verdun front where you will face elite German sniper teams and machine gun outposts'

The past two months saw intensive action on the Verdun front. To start with we have finished the French player model which has been modeled by JRDavis, optimized by Fabiodan and textured by Leonidas.

It represents a fully equipped french soldier ("Poilu") as we would expect him at the battle of Verdun. Wearing the m1915 greatcoat, the m1915 adrian helmet (visibly damaged and without the fabric cover). Carrying The m1914 campaign pack with spare boots, cooking gear and the canvas knapsack. On the belt we see the m1877 bottle and the Lebel ammo pouches. Obviously we created merely the standard french soldier so expect many more variations in further versions of Verdun!

Secondly, the long development of the French Fusil M1886-M93 "Lebel" rifle has finally been brought to an end with modeling from Sol1dand texturing from Leonidas. With the Lebel being finished the french arsenal of weapons for our first version(s) is almost completed. The m1892 revolver will see appearance soon.

Next to the Lebel, we have another weapon that some of you might not have noticed. The French Fusil Automatique RSC Mle. 1917, which basically is the semi-automatic version of the Lebel. This will be one of the french more special weapons, due to the fact that only 80.000 of these were ever produced. This artwork has been modeled by Gunwizard and textured by Saruman-23.

This past two months also saw testing on the multiplayer department, with the animation system being improved and revised by Gunwizard to be more compliant with network optimization.

In this news we also want to take the opportunity to mention that we have an open position in the coding department. We are looking for someone to handle Shaders and is capable of working with the Ogre's materials and CG.

Hello lads!

This looks quite awesome, so far, I was just visiting Fort Douaumont and Fort Vaux at Verdun Area, would be quite impressive and also it is a dream since walking through the trenches to fight for Germany on the Western Front. But can you tell me something is this an arcade runner with cross hairs or will this be more like Red Orchestra: Combined Arms, a real realism shooter, or will it be a semi-arcade like Red Orchestra Ostfront is?

Keep up the work!

Regards
Kraddy

>> Woah This Game is gunna be great please don't quit on me!!!!!!! by the way the german model reminds
>> me of call of duty (It's good!) just a reminder if you wanna make money, source buys games check out
>> red orchestra mod for unreal 2004. I downloaded it on gamespot free but thats prolly cuase it was
>> beta or somethin. anywhoo looks great i'd pay money to play it !!!!!

1. 'Source' doesn't buy games, Valve give a distribution opportunity to a developer to have the game made available over Steam.

2. Red Orchestra on Steam isn't the same as the RO mod. The Red Orchestra devs won a Unreal '2.5' engine licence in the "Make Something Unreal" competition held by Epic.

Holy crap, get a clue.

...Back on topic. It's looking amazing guys, OGRE3d is great to work with and should benefit you guys vastly (although my experience is with MOGRE3D). I was also wondering, could we possibly get any more info on other engines and api's you're using and even some shots of engine tests (renderer functionality implementation, shaders, etc)?

I'll be adding this to my watch list. Keep going!
