Verdun is a squad-based multiplayer FPS set in First World War(WW1) . The game is inspired by the infamous battle of Verdun in 1916.

The game includes historically accurate features such as true WW1 weaponry, historical maps based on sectors of the Western Front and authentic uniforms and equipment. The game immerses you audiovisually into one of the bloodiest conflicts fought in Europe.

The merciless trench warfare offers a unique battlefield for tactical squad play in the realistic Frontlines game mode, and raw gameplay in the rifle-deathmatch.

The Frontlines game mode is unique in its tactical complexity, where you are levelling different types of squads, each with your own tactics and roles. The realistic trenches are an extra challenge in the fight, where teamwork and tactical cunning are essential for success. Drive your enemies from their trenches and dominate the Western Front!

Great news from the Verdun front!

Today we have concluded most of the work of conversion to the brand new unity 5 engine. We are very excited as the new engine is a lot faster and better looking. Unity 5 uses so called "Physically Based Shading" (short: PBR), this means that surfaces are lit and reflect based on actual physical properties. This is most evident in the characters and really makes the all the details really come out more.

Overall lighting and shading improvements can also be seen, most notably on the Flanders map. More advanced Screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO) and motion blur are now also noticable and bring the graphics to live. Unity 5 also offers a new way of audio management and this enhances the immersion even further, we hope to expand its use in the future. First reports indicate that the performance has increased dramatically for the participants of the beta branch which we deployed in the past month for the testing.


But that is far from all. Besides working on the conversion to the new engine and all effort that went into that, we also continued to upgrade the gameplay. Some major improvements have been implemented in this area:

Supression
Players will now receive suppression when they are under fire. Their screen becomes fuzzy and desaturated and aiming becomes tougher.

Shell shock
When an explosion occurs nearby, the screen will be shaking and aiming will be thrown off. In addition the particle FX for grenades and mortars has been greatly improved as well as the audio effect.

Weapon sway overhaul
Weapons now have more realistic sway with the front sight (the arm that is holding the rifle or gun) now sways as a whole.

Private Matches
This long awaited and requested feature has now been implemented as well. it is possible to set up a private server (both Frontlines and Rifle deathmatch), with administrators and several commands as well to organize clan matches (such as restarting a round, changing maps). Besides these new features we have also put a massive effort into fixing bugs. Most notably the many connection and matchmaking issues have been addressed.

The changelog can be found here, it also includes smaller features such as a brightness/gamma setting and gas lethality increase.While this was a major step forward in the development of the game, we are not 'dun yet and the current build will undoubtedly include some bugs or missing features . We greatly appreciate all the players who have put faith in the project and participate in the the early access program. We would very much like to work with you to prepare the game .

Is there any plans to add the ability to change the FoV? It is a pretty addicting game for me but I can't manage to play 2h straight without ending with a headache :)

Picardie is the region in which many battles of the war were fought out; the infamous 1916 anglo-french offensive on the Somme, the German spring offensive in march 1918 and finally the start of the allied 100-day offensive in august of 1918. Picardie is set to reflect the battles fought in these rolling hills between Amiens and St. Quentin."

We have levels designed to mimic all of the sectors of the western front, as can be see on our interactive map of the western front. The next sector up will be Flanders (known for passchendaele/ypres)

We're working to tweak that for sure, as there are some bugs that make it super hard to be good at. However sniping shouldn't be something that is casually done by any player, it is designed to be a specialist role.

The maps are actually pretty big aside from the vauquois map, which is designed especially for the rifle deathmatch gametype. I understand that some people who played the alpha, especially people from this mod community are sceptical, but the game has changed quite a lot since April last year. Also the game is in full development still, hence early access beta.

Both "Picardie" and the upcoming map in "Flanders" are roughly 2KM in depth, with 8 trench defensive lines.

In addition the game brings to the table:
> A unique setting never done before in a full commercial FPS (I did participate myself in battlefield 1918)
> Unique frontline gameplay based on trench warfare, take lines, hold of a counter attack and proceed.
> Unique squadtypes that can be choosen with 4 fixed roles within, which change the composition of each match (3 chasseurs VS 1 landser + 2 stosstruppen gives a different game from 2 poilus + 1 Canadian VS 3 landsers)
> Squads can be leveled, using a never done before co-op xp system
> Weapons and rifles which have never been used in other games.
> An interactive 3D frontline map of the western front in which all of the deployed squads are shown, allowing to quickly join friends in squads
> Levels designed to mimic all of the sectors of the western front
> Gas warfare (We will feature different types of gas as well as a unique mechanic for mask to increase immersion)

I have bought the game on Steam. I immediatley fell in love when I first played, although I do have some complaints: The servers arent that good, there is quite some lag. Also the sniper scope seems to glitch the whole time. When i zoom in, it doesnt extend your view, but its just like normal iron-sights zoom. But these are the only 2 major complaints i have. Good job guys! Keep them updates coming!
