Verdun is a first person shooter set in the first world war' Based on the amazing ogre3D rendering engine. The first versions of Verdun will feature 3 factions directly involved in the battle of Verdun' Find yourself in the epic struggle around the fortresses of Verdun in 1916 as either a French or a German soldier' Or see action as a rookie American marine in the Meuse Argonne offensive in 1918' Later on, Verdun will also include the British, Canadian, ANZAC and Belgian forces in the western front battles of the Somme, Ypres, Vimy and Cambrai' In later releases we are especially interested in the Italian front with fighting between the Italian and Austria-Hungarian forces in mountainious settings' The lesser known battles of the eastern front will not be forgotten; not to mention the Mesopotamian and Galipoli front' With the community growing and with more people on the team this shouldn't be hard to realize soon.

Again great news from the Verdun front!
We have made major progress since june. For a starter we got a fully running test level to experiment with the engine's beauty like normal and specular mapping.

Our senior coder Gunwizard has succesfully implemented the famous Ragdoll-Physics in our game engine. Appart from this, he also managed to get the material system to work ingame. For each material the interaction with bullets will be different, bullet penetration and riccochets are working as well as the particle effects.

More news in the artistic sector. During the last months 10 weaponmodels have been created. We are looking for texture artists to aid us with these weapons. Next to weapons, we have nearly finished the German and French playermodels, both will each recieve two different types of zbrushed character heads in the future.

A rather special notion will go to StoneLion, our music composer. He has composed the main menu theme as well as win/lose music for each faction.

To add some visuals to this news Leonidas quickly modeled and textured the French M1915 'adrian' helmet which will be included with the upcoming french playermodel.

To view the historical background of this helmet Etoolmilitaria has written an article about the development of this helmet and it's use. The article can be viewed here.
Make sure you also check out his article "Wools of War" about the French uniforms used during the war here.
