Vector Thrust is a fast-paced cel shading action-arcade flight simulator.

Okay!

It is almost time, Vector Thrust will most likely release in the next 24 hours.

Before saying anything else, let me be clear, for release there were only two priorities, the Hollow Thunder Campaign and making a game as solid as it should be for a release. I mean with this, in gameplay and modding, and extra effort has been made to make the game adapt to missing textures, files or out of range values. To help the designer there is a new editor log that prints any critical situation but without crashing.


Of course, there is more new content in the release, but this has not been a priority. But as may know me, I´m always ready to add more content for VT, so there will be plenty of opportunities to add it later.

A game with open architecture like VT, there is no clear end for the development, but I feel a solid campaign and gameplay is what defines it as a full release


This world has been in development for a long time, I´ve seen some files that date back to 2007. (Would be interesting to find the date of the first file of VT, but that is a talk for another time)

Now is not the time for retrospectives, but I feel that the world could have been presented a lot sooner in the development. But fortunately with the release, we will now be able to see the world trough the perspective of the Hollow Thunder campaign.


Also! I almost forgot, the multiplayer has been fixed during joining and gameplay.


If you have played multiplier before you probably noticed a heavy lag on other payers. But that has been fixed! Actually it wasn´t lag! It was an issue in the code that made all NPC aircraft always move in the direction of the nose, this contradicts to the actual movement of the other player and that created a constant popping effect.

I hope with this multiplayer really takes off, because if it does I have greater plans for it.

But I´ll stop here for now, there is a lot more to talk about for the release, this is just the start. more reports will be available before the release has been launched.

That check is mostly to guarantee the steam connection is available in order for some features to work as intended. In a way it acts like one but it is a very weak “DRM”.
About GOG, I´m not sure if the release includes that platform.

I think I can safely say we'd like to consider that idea, but our concerns are about making the game first as opposed to distribution. We'll be sure to reapproach this topic another time.

It always check whether the Steam is running though. Hence the problem some people get with "Steam not connected" error while starting the game.

I don't know if it's just me, but since the newest update the difficulty has become a bit off or sometimes the CPU are shooting more missiles with planes who are not supposed to do that in the hands of a players, like the Surprise Fighter A, who is now doing Macross Missile Massacre/Itano Circus, when it's not supposed to do that unless you're using the mutator.

That's the new feature Alpha Strike. Both the AI and human players can use it. When used is fires all weapons Primary and Special weapons at the same time at the cost of a long cool down period. Leaving you with just your gun(s) if your aircraft has one. To activate Alpha Strike, press the Toggle SP Weapon and Fire Missile buttons at the same time.

Is alpha strike even a good idea when you need to kill a large number of enemies quickly? I'd think the cooldown ould give them a chance to kill whatever you're supposed to be protecting.

Has the same downsides for the AI as it does for you, though, so when someone tries to Alpha Strike you, you can expect they'll be defenseless for a good while, allowing you to close in for the kill.

I am sorry I couldn't give it a 10/10 out of euphoria; but this is still an alpha; I am glad that such a ace combat pandora box has been opened; i was very pleased, really; and the only reason i cannot be more precise is the state of advanced sleep deprivation my brain is suffering from. The musics seem sometimes to be out of place and we can barely see what the entire game will be; but...... This is a godlike game. Really. Pretty unplayable at the current moment, UI's too small, the game is also very buggy for me currently, every time I start the game it just likes to empty out all my controls, so I have to keep 'reverting to default' and resetting my modified controls over and over again. And also Desura seems to have wiped all my skins and modified content when I update (And also wipes all options again, including Display options) I understand that this is a Alpha version, but the game's bugs and problems are too…
