Yep.
Im wondering if that would work. Lets say I make a custom skin for my beloved Nighthound.
(Sketches)

Would other players need to download it to see it? Would be something like in GarrysMod where it autodownloads everything you need
when you enter a server?
Also, i think i saw a tutorial about how to really put the skin to work. I have no idea about 3d or modding so if someone can point me
to the tutorial i would be grateful.

For the first part, this post suggests that there will eventually be a way to see custom content online.

As for the multiplayer itself, at release it will quite restricted in the use of custom content (to avoid cheating), but I plan to add almost immediately the ability to use your own custom skins online.

This will be combined with a ability of capturing the custom skins of the players you defeated.
Then you will be able to use them in single player and read any custom description that defeated player left there. This will be something like the assault records of the AC 0.

As to a tutorial, I know one is given during the creation process of the F-104. I don't know if this will be of any use, and I'm not entirely certain if there is a tutorial solely on creating skins, but you can see if this does anything for you.

inb4 becoming pokeman.

Gotta catch dem all custom paint jobs.

But how you could implement filtering stuff to prevent idiots from spamming with things like dick-themed skins?

Thanks for the answers. The capturing skins thing sounds really fun.
Given how much I suck at games if I want to retain my personal skin I will need to do one each time I play...
That may be a good thing.

Can we hope only decent people will play and skin their aircraft?
Nah, this is the internet.
How about a classic ban button?

I can't say the system is set in stone, since it was mentioned the one time at the end of last year. For filtering, I'm still unsure if it's possible to specifically filter a download, other than to say "do download skins" or "don't download skins."

Content sharing is something I´m really interested.

But about filtering, maybe adding a mechanism that after the match show you the skins and you only keep the ones that you are interested?
Related to this, I want to add in the profile a sort of registry that keeps track of all the players you have fought in the multiplayer. like number of times you killed or was killed by that player.

Also about content sharing, I have another idea for this, I want to study the possibility of adding a coop mode were you can share and play your own custom missions.

I remember this was something I've asked about before, so I would certainly make use of co-op mission sharing.

It might be doable, valve games usually let you share maps, sprays, and other stuff.

Please make it not to be only exclusive to Steam Workshop.

Just an idea.
About the "capturing" of other player skins when you kill them.
I think that getting other player skin by just killing him may be too easy.
How about you can bet it with other player in some kind of duel mode?
You could challenge people on the forums and call them funny things until they accept.
The winner gets the other player skin as trophy.
Also if that could be somehow represented in your profile you could see who are real killers.
(Dreaming mode ON) Something like the steam card thing, you could exchange them with other guys. So the good people will have their skins as "rare cards".
That supposing people embrace the skin making thing...

@ Nergal01, it won´t be a Steam Workshop exclusive

@ KnX I really like this idea, and it is fully possible because all the information can be stored in the client side (player)
But we could work on the rules to capture skins, for example it could only happen if you kill more that player than it killed you

If we ended up with CS:GO's system of skin trading, I think that would be pretty wonderful.

Also the idea of having my own online assault record seems nice.

Not having played since Source in maybe '06, what is GO's system?

Everyone will know when you have a custom skin on your gun, it can be traded on the steam market place for money or other skins, otherwise you can get one by doing certain tasks or random drops.

Community skins can still be made and if approved, can be made official skins.

Of course this wouldn't work with what is happening here as I presume we're talking about how EVERYONE can be able to make a custom skin, however a variant thereof would be nice.

Ah, so trading there is done through Steam's marketplace and trading cards?
