A failed attack upon a downed enemy mothership wipes out all of tank squad UTS-187. That is all but one! Cut off from your allies you must battle your way through waves of enemy forces to reach the final confrontation... Will you succeed?
The basic game play idea for our first game demo. It's still early in development, but we are making progress.

Last week was spent working on design concepts for the objects in the game. Since I tend to work better in 3d than drawing designs on paper, I usually create simple 3d models, in something like 3dsMax or Blender, and then use them as a basis for creating the sprites for the game.
The first playable demo I'm working on is going to be a top-down scrolling shooter. In the game the player will control the small blue tank shown above, and the object of the game is quite simple. Reach the end of each level without getting killed. To stop the player from getting to the end of each level there are enemies. These will consists of other tanks, gunships, mines, pill boxes, and barricades. There will also be other obstacles like different routes and jumps that the player must traverse, and the player has the added problem of collecting fuel and ammo.
The game is still in the very early stages, so all I currently have is a few sprites and a very simple mock-up of how the game may look when finished. At this point it's still subject to change and the image below isn't 100% representative of how the final game will look.
So, that's really it for this week. Next week, if everything goes to plan, I'm hoping to have something that actually moves to show off.
