Our awesome programmer, Chris, has been hard at work trying to implement and customize OpenFeint for our new game. If you don't know, OpenFeint is an awesome, FREE!, utility for sharing games, achievements, high scores, and much more with friends over a user friendly, in-game network. We use it specifically to keep a leader-board and to keep track of achievement unlocking. So let's jump right in.

One problem we have right now is the implementation of our own acceptance screen for OF. When you start the game for the first time, it will ask you if you would like to activate/sign-up for and OF account to share your awesome scores and achievements with us. This is all great, except for the fact that the default screen ALWAYS comes off as some scam/spam/waste of time/exit-out-so-i-can-start-playing-my-game! Also, many people don't realize the fact that is is FREE!

Here is a screenshot of what our custom acceptance screen looks like:

Hopefully we can fix those problems so we don't have a low rate of acceptance for this great service. Another thing is customizing the achievement pop-ups. Here is what the default achievement notification for OF looks like:

Eh, kinda bland. We already have a way cooler notification system that is themed with our UI!

So Chris went ahead, plowed through the documentation (or lack-thereof) and figured out how to make it work. He spent hours (and I mean, hours) working on the OF implementation and it is pure awesome. Just being able to share scores with each other right now is amazing, and I can't wait til the game has launched and I get to see my precious high scores plummet to the abyss of loser-dom.

So if you'd like to read some more about our problems/triumphs with OpenFeint, head over to our blog and check it out. Here you can check out latest update with OF, and here is a tutorial to get OF implemented and up and running.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned as we keep you posted until launch day and beyond!
