Monsters, weapons, potions, spells, quests, pets, bosses, a giant castle... and a funny story! Unepic is a combination of platforming and role playing games. There are many hilarious references throughout the game. The game takes place in Harnakon, a huge medieval castle. It is set in the hardcore NES Style, yet refined with the latest features. This makes Unepic a very unique game. Daniel, the hero, is a normal guy from recent times: a great videogame player, big sci-fi movie fan, novice player of role playing games, pot-head and overall, horny due to a mysterious lack of success with girls. During a D&D session he is teleported to a fantasy castle where his modern way of thinking will go against monsters and other characters from there.

Hello all,

Steam Keys are given to all those people who suported Unepic in the past and purchased Unepic before it was released in Steam, so they can play the game in Steam without purchasing the game again.

Now that the game was released in Steam, if a new player (that still has not purchased Unepic) wants to play the game in Steam, he will have two options: to purchase the game directly in Steam or in the official web of Unepic (

No Steam Keys will be given to new players that purchase Unepic in other shops out of Steam or the official web after the 26th of June.

Steam Keys are obtained in the "my zone" section of the official web of Unepic:

Installing Unepic Royale via Desura doesn't seem to work.

When you launch it it says "retrieving CD key" and then gives and error about not being able to retrieve one because this version doesn't have or need a CD key.

I think you need to mark this version as not needing a CD key.

Ok, I found that if you switch the version back to Demo, then start up the game you can unlock the full game by selecting the new user on the options menu. You have to enter your email address registered with Indie Royale and the 'in game items' code for the password. This will unlock the game, but it still lists it as the demo in your games list and if you select 'version' from the right click menu in the games list the demo version is checked and not the Royale version. If you change it to Royale you will get the cd key error again. Also when you next launch the game a window pops up asking if you want to run the demo or the Royale version. If you select the Royale version here you will also have the cd key problem. So not sure what is happening there exactly. Also don't forget to register your game in the My Zone area of the official website, using the same login info as used in game (ie. Indie Royale email address and the 'in game item' key.

If anyone knows what if anything to do with the Royale version and the 'cd key error' thing please let me know.

I'm getting this error when launching through desura too. However, I was able to launch the .exe directly with no problem. I'm just going to set up a shortcut to it rather than deal with Desura. Path will be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\Unepic\unepic.exe

Hadn't tried that, although I did download the standalone Royale version and that works fine. Hopefully the problem with launching it via Desura will be sorted soon. Only thing I need to figure out now is how to redeem the item codes you buy from the website with your 100 free coins!?!

I still can't believe that Steam turned this game down, especially considering some of the crap that seems to get through the vetting process of late.

I asked that same question myself about the codes from the My Zone on the website. Got a prompt reply on the official forums:

Yeah, it's definitely a glitch with how the game is registered in the client's database rather than a glitch with the game itself.

Same here, I bought the game long ago, then wanted to switch to Royale Unepic and I get the message error.
