TripleA 1.6.1.4 Mac OS dmg
Apr 16, 2012 Full Version 0 commentsMac OS dmg installer for the latest version of TripleA.
TripleA is a free turn based strategy game and board game, similar to Risk, or Axis & Allies. Known for its multiplayer on the online lobby, it also allows Play-By-Email and network (LAN) play, as well as single player vs AI or hotseat. It has over 100 games and maps that can be downloaded from the user community. It is open source, needing only Java 5 to run (can run on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc). Supports savegames, encrypted dice gen, low luck, and other options. Recreate World War 2 with the Axis pushing through to Moscow and Japan devouring the Pacific, or recreate Napoleon's march across Europe, or Rome defeating the Carthaginian Empire, or even Sauron conquering Middle Earth, or Zombies taking over America! If you have ever played a game where you push little plastic/virtual pieces around, roll dice, conquer the lands of your enemy, & produce new pieces to conquer with, you will be able to jump right into TripleA!

I am proud to present another 4 months of effort into improving and expanding TripleA, by releasing to you the newest stable version 1.6.1.4
Besides a load of small bug fixes, I have been working on some major new features:
1. Support for new and totally different Map Skins.
This includes a skin I made for Global 1940 that looks just like ABattlemap!
2. A new Map Creator is being included with TripleA.
The map maker now has a full tutorial for how to make a Map Skin, along with improved instructions for each step of the way.
3. Added a new "Tab" to the right side of the screen, called Objectives Tab.
The objectives tab will display all National Objectives and other condition based things. You will have to update your maps to see the feature, and not all maps have the text file that displays this tab (though it is easy to make the text file for it, so bug the map maker if your favorite map doesn't have it).
4. New keyboard shortcuts:
Press "I" to show a popup containing info on whatever unit or territory your mouse is currently hovering over.
Press "N" during combat-move or non-combat-move phases to cycle to the next territory containing units that have movement left (you should never have to forget about that Russian submarine now!).
Press "WASD" or the Arrow Keys, to move around the map.
5. Added support for "UPnP" (universal plug and play) on Routers.
This means that if your router supports UPNP, triplea will automatically do port forwarding for you (online games).
Should make it a lot easier to host games live online.
6. Support for custom Sounds, and tons of new Sounds added!
Sounds can now be customized per map, so that you can have horses galloping for blitzing a territory in Napoleonic Empires, and tank movements for blitzing a territory in any ww2 game.
A ton more "sound locations" added, meaning more places for sounds to be played. And a lot more sounds added to the engine (like sounds for air battles, etc).
7. Lots more, see a full list of the changes here: Tripleadev.1671093.n2.nabble.com
I'm pretty excited about this update, especially the new sounds.
Remember to support TripleA if you enjoy playing on it. Out donation page is here:

First picture shows how to change map skins:

Click the "View" menu.
Then click "Map Skins"
Then select which skin you want to use.
It will only show you which skins you have downloaded, so you must download skins for this to work. They are downloaded the same way as new maps are. (See this link for a video of how to download a map: Desura.com )
The second picture attached below shows off 3 things:
1. The new Map Skin for ABattleMap style Axis and Allies Global 1940 2nd Edition online on TripleA.
2. The new Objectives tab (visible on the right side) showing you which objectives are currently met, etc.
3. The new "Info" popup. My mouse was over the Infantry in Somaliland, so the popup is showing info about infantry, and about Somaliland.
enjoy!

Highest Rated (4 agree) 8/10
Very Axis and Allies.
Like it because it brings it to the pc, and easy multiplayer, but the UI takes a bit of time to learn.
Once you know it a little, it is much easier use, and quite sensible. It's just that learning time.

the Desura download doesn't let me play online. (it gives a wrong version error)
also, downloading maps is kinda confusing
Looks good, gonna try it :)
I released TripleA 1.6 about a month ago, however it was a beta (unstable) build.
TripleA 1.6.1 should be coming along soon, with tons of new features. Hopefully I can release that by the end of this week or next.
And 1.6.1 has been out for a little more than a week. No major bugs reported so far. I hope to release a stable very shortly (2 more weeks), and if no bugs are reported in it after another week I'll upload it to desura.
New version, 1.5.2.1, is released.
This means we have a new Online lobby server running for any live online games.
If you prefer not to play games against live opponents, you can try out the new "Play by Forum" ability on Axis And Allies .org website.
Axisandallies.org
To find players, check out the "find players" section of their forum:
Axisandallies.org
Or you can use the rewritten Play-By-Email way, and find players for that on the TripleA War Club:

I really like the idea of having one client for a bunch of like this games. However, I would like to be able to play simple Risk with the old-school folks though. Does it exist? Will it be included?
Risk is on my TODO list, and I really want to play it on TripleA also. However, above it in my list is getting the rules for a new 1940 based map working, and that will probably take a few months.
That is an incredibly naïve opinion to hold. Take the battle of Montgisard for example: 375 templar knights, a thirteen year old king with advanced leprosy, and a few thousand infantry ran up against 26,000 strong oposition of which 1,100 were killed on the templar side compared to 23,000 on the side of the Muslims. Hell, if you really want to know about winning when you are immensely out-numbered, read War and Peace to learn (in great detail) the many battles between Napoleon's forces and the whole of Russia and how the far superior French forces limped home at the end of it.
It does not matter how many forces you have, when it comes to battle it is all about luck, planning, skill and perseverance; numbers and quality of your weapons is an afterthought…
Well the fact remain if Luck, skill and that should be in a game it should be in a RTS game not a board game since its Real Time Strategy not turn based (again my opinion), if you could build Veteran soldiers i wouldnt mind but to say oh you lost your 350 troops vs 50 because the enemy side was lucky 4 times in a raw will damage the fun in the game(Example).
Those 26,000 Muslim Soldiers led by Saladin who fought those Templars lost against the thirteen year old king was in fact that the templars are veterans/Elites and that Saladin and his generals thought it would be a pushover since the enemy had less troops and that a thirteen year old kid was leading them, they lost because of arrogance, bad strategy.
Napoléons army was way better then the russians and they lost several battles but the why did Napoléons army lose?
Well thats just because (no LUCK for Russia) the Winter arrived and the french didnt have the clothes to protect themselves if you almost freeze to death you cant fight.
War tactic- strategy, moral and knowing the area you fight in thats the standar tactic even tho you are outnumbered if you fight in a place you are familiar with and the enemy arent you will win easy. Also if Luck has a great part in war does that mean Hitler was Unlucky on D-Day WWII and the Allies were just lucky to take over the beach? since it was one of the worst and costly Tactics the allies ever did during the war.
(edit) forgot to mention still an awesome game :D
Actually, the end of a battle can be decided by soldiers as well as commanders, which is best symbolised by Luck.
