Tremulous is a free, open source game that blends a team based FPS with elements of an RTS. Players can choose from 2 unique races, aliens and humans. Players on both teams are able to build working structures in-game like an RTS. These structures provide many functions, the most important being spawning. The designated builders must ensure there are spawn structures or other players will not be able to rejoin the game after death. The overall objective behind Tremulous is to eliminate the opposing team. This is achieved by not only killing the opposing players but also removing their ability to respawn by destroying their spawn structures.

Development on Tremulous is nearing completion, but before we can call it 'finished' it needs to be tested more extensively. The primary aim of this testing is to balance the mod, which is particularly important for Tremulous since the each of the two teams in the game are different. Balance data is generated daily that illustrates where the current level of balance is with various numbers of players. We have plenty of data for small games, but very little for higher volume games.

Tremulous can be downloaded easily in one big zip file that is regenerated weekly. Note you only need the big zip file, the individual pk3 files are for keeping up to date if new files are uploaded before the main download is updated. If you decide to participate, it is a great help if you also idle in #tremulous on irc.quakenet.org. All games are organised in this channel and there are always people around who can help get Tremulous up and running (which isn't hard incidentally -- just unzip into your Quake 3 directory and go). Our test server is server.tremulous.net:27960. I highly recommend you set cl_allowdownload to 1 in the console so that any updates will be automatically installed.

In summary:

  • Download
  • Chat; #tremulous irc.quakenet.org
  • Play; server.tremulous.net:27960

the quake 3 source code got released
Idsoftware.com
This is the combined source code for Quake III Arena and Quake III: Team Arena. It can be used to build the 1.27g point release or the Team Arena release. It contains buildable project files and all related game source code as well as prebuilt tool executables.

The human solder is olive green.

It would be absurd if we couldn't use the blue hues, just because another game uses them.

Well, I apologize for the mistake, but he did say "use the same textures". Even so, you might want to change some of the color patterns, etc., because people associate that light blue with the space marines from NS. Perhaps use more reds and greens i your lighting too.

The textures that Tremulous uses (mostly Evillairs Evil sets (mostly 6 and 8) and Shaderlabs Majestic set) were not made by the NS team... they are, in fact, (gasp) public domain.

If you think Tremulous is copying the 'game world' of NS, read the rest of the posts here, and search the NS forums for 'tremulous'. There have been a number of threads bringing this point up over and over, some even thinking that legal action should be taken. Of course almost all of these threads have been locked...

I'm getting rather tired of Tremulous being branded as a rip-off, and that the years and years of work should be put to a stop whenever it tries to get some publicity. Tremulous began work before Natural Selection was popular, or even anywhere near a releasable state. The first time the team had even heard of it was when one of those previously mentioned threads was started.

Okay, i b0rked the code on the previous post, but seriously, you might want to stop the project. That, or make something original.
