Darklegion development is proud to announce the immediate availability of a Tremulous 1.2 beta-release.
Tremulous is a free open source game that blends team based FPS with RTS. Players can choose from 2 unique races: aliens and humans. Players on both teams are able to build bases from a handful of different structures. These structures provide a multitude of functions, such as allowing players to respawn after dying. The builders must ensure there are spawn structures or other players will not be able to rejoin the game after death. Other structures can be built to provide some amount of automated base defence, or heal wounded players and much more...
Changes:
The latest 1.2 Beta includes a ton of gameplay updates and bug fixes.
The full list of gameplay updates are in this thread: Tremulous.net
Availability:
The installers are available for all major operating systems at Tremulous.net
How to Install:
For all platforms other than Mac OS X, this is an update to 1.1, so an installation of Tremulous 1.1 is required. If you do not have Tremulous installed, download and install Tremulous 1.1. Then download and run the 1.2 Beta installer.
So there you go, that's all the necessary information you need to play the new 1.2 Beta! We'd love to see you in-game, every person that plays provides us with important feedback which contributes to making Tremulous better than ever! The more players that play the beta, the quicker we can make sure that all the major bugs are ironed out, which means we can release 1.2 sooner!

now when the udk is avaible why not to move the project to better looking graphics? q3 is so old...
because then they'd ditch the players who made the game popular.
Lower graphics allows more people, like me and my friends, to play games like this. It provides for a wider audience and better testing. I can see this project moving into a higher graphics engine later in development, but I am very happy to see an open source game that I can run.
Great concept guys! Can't wait to try it!! :D
It is not the graphics which attract the developers to this engine. The quake 3 (ID Tech 3) engine is FREE AND OPEN SOURCE and with the extensive additions the developers have made to it -- including many, many bug fixes, Voice over IP, and full potability (this is one of the few engines that work flawlessly over most popular POSIX complaint operating systems as well as windows and mac) -- it makes it ideal for a free simple multiplayer shooter. UDK on the otherhand is not portable, not compact or have low system requirements, and is not completely bug free or ported well to other operating systems.

yeah....they should move to unreal engine since its free now
but remember this is pretty much a gaming icon for linux users and i don't think the unreal engine supports linux
i mean this is a REALLY big deal for linux users
Yes, it is!
That's is definetly a minus for porting the game to UDK.
And it would actually be like recreating everything.
It is still possible to improve graphics in ID Tech3 engine and push this engine to its limits.
Trem was never really about the graphics though. I'd rather a game that plays well than plays pretty.
Maybe the UDK version could be a expansion, sequel perhaps?
Bury this mfker 8ft deep!!!
Why would they port it to UDK? It is doing perfectly fine for IDtech3, especially since it is a standalone game nearly anyone can download and run effectively. Even for the engine it's an amazing game, that delivers great gameplay in an online setting.
Changing engines would take a very long time to remake every little thing, and would greatly reduce their fanbase considering some of their players would not be able to run it. Changing engines might be good for sequels, but not updates this far into the game.
I'm really looking forward to this update. Still play 1.1 from time to time. Maybe one day we can see a new alien type or maps out in 0g where humans have to wear suits.
ALIENS FTW.
Wow, so many changes! I'm so going to have to try this out again!
this reminds me of a game I saw on steam a long time ago, 'natural selection' anybody?
i am definitely going to download this but isn't it like Natural Selection? but on IDTech3? lol but i think it will be a good game
