Towns brings a fresh new take on the citybuilding/management genre by introducing many RPG features.

Drawing inspiration from games such as Diablo, Dungeon Keeper and Dwarf Fortress, the game has you managing a settlement on top of an active dungeon. Instead of playing the hero who delves deep into the dungeon, how about playing the town that houses and caters to the hero's needs?

Both the RPG and strategic aspects will be fleshed out over a series of sprawling dungeons.

Craft unique weapons, obtain randomized loot and build a settlement capable of holding back the forces that come up from the depths!

Hello all!

We want to thank you all for the patience of waiting of v14, it took a long time, had to take a revision of features midway, but its finally here!

So, what does V14 bring to the table?

Events
Events are special, random and semi-random situations that can affect the map, the people or the items in the game. They come in all sort of forms, some can be benefitting but some can cause harm.

Day/Night system
We have added a day/night cycle. Some events will be limited only to the days and some only to the night.
Some might get harsher during night times.
The day/night cycle affect the lighting and trigger sounds, so don't get surprised by hearing chickens here and there.

Mouse interface improvements
The mouse has been improved so that it now allow for interaction of the terrain/items/creatures from higher layers. If you have grown too accustomed to the old mouse style interface, you can set it up easily by switching the 2d mouse. If you don't want the height boxes indicators showing, you can disable them in the options menu accessible from within the game.

Rotation and unlocking
Some items can now be rotated by pressing the F button while building them (a direction indicator will appear) or through right clicking the menu and choosing the facing direction.
Any item can now be unlocked so that it could be moved around and about.

Other stuff
We have reworked heroes so that they are now waiting to be fully healed before returning to the dungeons. Also, heroes now require specific items to be built inside the tavern rooms if you wish to attract them:

Barbarian - bone bed
Elf - harp
Knight - wooden bed
Dwarf - room to be built underground
Mage - wooden cupboard
Sips - necromancer statue
Vechs - bird in a golden cage
Punchwood - a wooden bed and a stone male statue
Herbalist - Potted plant
Rogue/Thief - Decorative Chest
Highlander - Room above level 5

Soldiers can level up, but will not keep their levels if they are reverted back to civilians, this is done so you will want to keep a steady and regular fighting force.

Townies will now drop crafted and harvested items directly into containers if they can see free ones around them in close proximity.

question, When farming, does the distance of the water affects the plant to grow faster/slower?.

Sorry for my bad eng.

what i ment to say is, if i dig from the river to the sides of my farm, will that do anything? like make my plants grow fast or something

Hi there ....
here is some help with farming/fishing if u r use (v12b)
1)you can goto (level 0) and (right click) on the level and choose (add/Remove Fluids) than left click on water than go back to level 1 and place a fishing net set and fish anywhere close to the water you just placed! .... P.S. you can do this any where on (level 0) and fish anywhere on the ground not on stones must be on grass to work .... i hope this tip or hint works ..... ok have fun .... :) .... yes a (map editor) would be nice! (plus the weather/day and night cycle) tooo ..... :P

No, but its a nice suggestion.

However, some plants like the sugar cane and bamboo require water nearby in order to grow.

Hi BurningPet ....
I have use this (level 0) i stubble on using (add/Remove Fluids) = Water .....
you dont have be near water for the sugar cane or bamboo or fishing ... i have placed water spots far from the rivers and lakes.... i call it (lol) Grass Fishing .... where you goto lvl 0 place water you wont see it but its there than go up to lvl 1 dont more the mouse and place a fishing chair above it from lvl 0 its work well .... :) it makes my ciz very happy(i hope you like fish dinner!(LOL)) to build so far away from lakes or rivers ... P.s. you place this on towers but you must build a platform first like a 3x3 = (keep the middle space open than right click and add water ... when you are done place a fishing chair facing the right way (wish we can Rotate some thing all the way a round? .) and watch as the fishing line go into the water ... cool :) remeber i done this and learn this step already ... i here to share the love LOL :) have fun all ... have a happy fishing farm ..... you only need like (30 Grass Fishing Farms or chairs) do the same to fill the(wells),(Ponds) for (water!) i hope this was helpful ... have a great day :)

How does the new stair/ladder system work? I played towns already some months ago and was excited about seeing what was implemented with the latest patches, but the first thing I notice is I can't even complete the mining tutorial.
The tutorial description seems to be the same it was back then, but apparently it either needs to be updated, or the new system simply is bugged.
I can mine stone on the surface and from the ground that people are standing on, but can't get further underground anymore.
Back then, you could simply dig/build ladders diagonally through the ground and people could mine the materials from underneath them. Now, when I dig up the first layer and people are standing on the stone below, the mine commands just don't work anymore. I tried both mining commands (why are there two different mining commands anyway?), tried building ladders, vertical ladders, but nothing works. And no, I am not viewing the wrong layer. I tried those things on all viewable layers, but they only have an effect on the starting layer, even when ladders are connecting it to the one below.

try scaffolds and take view down 1 lv. and use mine it works for me and scaffolds r free and instant build i build cities underground

Okay, wow... Apparently the reason for this is that mining is restriced in the tutorial. You simply can't go further below there.
A warning would have been nice though.

I have further tested the new patches now, so far the most seems to be cool and the game is as fun as always.
Two bugs I noticed though:
- When digging, it says "mine" in the top left corner, while it should say "dig" instead.
- When using the 3D mouse and trying to attach blocks to others on a high layer (for example when building a balcony), blocks you are being placed on the ground layer instead of the one you are aiming at.

You guys should seriously consider revising how roofs are laid. You shouldnt have to watch a youtube video because its so difficult.

I think there's a bug or something like that. When I created 4 job groups; Each job I assigned two people and set which jobs they should do.... the game start lagging. About every ~10s they all pause for a second and then continue. Once I disband the groups; the game works ok again without lagging.
Anyone else experienced this?

It is a game with great potential. The gameplay is like DF Lite (If it existed), which is not coincidental because the developers said they had Toady's masterwork in mind while working on this game.
