Thrive is a game about the universe - we want to let you play however you want, make whatever you want, and live however you like. Thrive will be a free, open-source game created by an online community of dedicated volunteers. Our team seeks to accomplish two major goals: create engaging, compelling gameplay that respects our players' intelligence, and remain as accurate as possible in our depiction of known scientific theory.

Version 0.2.4 Released!

User Posted Image

Another half-year, another release! And this one brings you the long-awaited GUI update, which we kept promising soon while we were too busy to work on it! But it is done! And so we release! Yay!

Windows release

Note, the linux release this time is on mega, thanks to issues uploading to GitHub.

New Features

  • All the features from the previous release
  • A super-awesome new GUI! Yay!
  • New microbes, new behaviours!
  • Some microbes are now toxic, so be careful who you kill!
  • Others will hunt you down and shoot at you. Choose your battles wisely.
  • Revamped reproduction! Swim, eat, metabolize, reproduce!
  • Sound effects for everything, from button-clicking to microbe death!
  • New compound models, for ammonia, amino acids, and reproductase!
  • An arrow in the editor so people will remember which way is forward!
  • Name your species! Click on your species name in the editor, write something, then hit F12!
  • Thanks to the 2-week pre-release, we have fixed a whole lotta bugs!

Controls

  • Point mouse to turn
  • WASD to move around
  • Mouse scrollwheel to zoom
  • E to release toxins (if you have any)
  • ESC to toggle menu.
  • F1 to toggle alternate reality (Debugging feature)
  • ` to bring up console (Debugging feature)
  • F2 to switch between microbe stage and microbe editor
  • F4 to save your current gamestate
  • F10 to load your previous saved gamestate
  • F12 to save a name-change

Known Issues and Disclaimers

  • The save button in the editor to save your creation is working, but the load button does nothing. Instead you can open the console with '`' (the key left of 1) and enter: loadMicrobe("MyMicrobeName") and hit the enter key
  • You guessed it, honeycombs. Membranes are hard, but we now have another prototype, with some nice behaviour we're getting closer to putting in-game.
  • For other less major things, go see our Issue List.

Hexes definitely seem like they'd be easier to work with.

Cell Stage was the only part of Spore I really liked to play, and it always annoyed me that it was the only part where everything was always the same.

You guys update the least out of all the games I follow, but that just makes me happier whenever you do update. Keep up the good work!

The download isn't working for me. It gets about halfway before failing.

Do you receive any error messages when trying to download it? Does it actually terminate the download, or just get stuck at a certain point?

Around the 50% point, the download terminates.

I don't believe this is an issue with the file itself at this point, rather a problem with Github. I think that the site simply isn't letting me download (as none of the other files download either). A mirror on Mega would be much appreciated.

Nevermind, the download appears to work on the Revolutionary Games website.

I Guess the Aquatic or Creature Stage is next after you're done with the Cell/Microbe Stage?

I don't know if you guys are already getting on the "creature stage" details, or if there's one even, but it would be nice to have different types of nests.
Some inside trees like squirrels; others on the branches, like bird nests; some others underground, like those of a mole; and open ones, like how herds live. I know I'm getting this game simply because of the concept. It would also be awesome to finally live and hunt like a gopher carnivore creature or something :D
