First of all I wanted to have some better understanding of the scene itself. With Photoshop I designed a small nice looking artwork where you can see the sword stick into the ground.

Now I had decided the overall look of the (very small) level.
Day 116:
In Blender I started to recreate the scene. I setup a few spheres and applied displacement maps to them to look very rocky. For every rock I also baked a lightmap to get a feeling how it would look ingame and to have some basic texture.

And here a shot from day 117

Day 119:
Now it was time to make the sword itself. A few parts of it are sculpted but the most have been modeled with the help of selfmade photo refrences. It constists of 4 materials (blade, triangle etc).

Day 120:
This day it was finally possible to take all assets, make a few (many) adjustments and take it all to the UDK. I have been pretty surprised that all worked so well. The updated versions of the UDK are really handy. I put all materials in place, added the meshes to the scene and so on. Here is the first result:

Day 122:
Today I began creating the cutscene. The level starts with the teleportation of the player. So I created a very blue light and a sweet particle effect for the portal.

Day 124:
On this day the level got an incredible graphic update. Together with another team member we created tons of textures with normal maps, remapped the rocks and worked on the materials. The result is great:

Day 126:
It was time to go to the interaction with the sword. When the player walks into a trigger a cutscene starts where a red light appears and the sword floats up. Here a shot:

Day 127:
Today I came up the interactive part. In the cutscene you have the opportunity to choose wheter to flee or to fight the sword. I reused the portal from the other day and I added floating fonts as text messages because this looks much better.

Maybe you wonder whats next? First I will prepare a video for you so that you can see this scene in motion. I hope to get this done tomorrow. But a very important thing must be done. I will create the main character Eric. Because I want to get him look really good this will take some time.
If you like please track & spread!
And here the promised video:
