I think this game should be a survival horror game that's single player, but if you're going to go the multiplayer route then the Monster should be AI and make it a competition where it's about who can last until morning or a set time limit. Points could be given at 10pts for as long as the monster doesn't find them and if the monster does find them then they have to wait until next game or they become "ghosts" that can phase through walls and be like a beacon that only the monster could see the "ghosts", but to make it fair there should be items that allow the surviving players to see the "ghosts" something like sunglasses or something else.
I realy like the idea you and i keep this in mind when im doing the game i might be able to do some mod with ai so player can choose between ai or player to be the monster
