"The Cursed" is a very unique free realtime-strategy game based on the Spring engine. The game is about bones, undead, demons, space marines and magic settled in a futuristic environment. It is a fresh mixture of gameplay elements from many popular RTS games.

The game features two unique races: The Cursed - a faction combining undead and demonic creatures and the Imperial Guards - human forces with high-tech weapons and incredible firepower. Many units in game have unique abilities, like burrowing, rocket jumping, teleporting, transmutation and aura casting. You will experience a war that is fought with tanks, guns, space crafts, bone dragons, priest, demons, werewolf and angels.

For Linux & Mac users and everyone unwilling to wait for a new installer version: you have to install the game manually (as I don't have any idea about creating Linux or Mac installation files). First you need to install the Spring Engine manually and then put the game content into the Spring\games directory. You'll also have to install maps manually.

Users with ATI graphics cards: There are several known issues with the Spring engine when playing on computers with ATI graphics adapters. Latest catalyst drivers are causing some trouble with particle effects when ground decals are activate. If you do not want that - Cataclyst 11.3 will work perfectly with Spring Engine. With recent drivers you may encounter problems with "bump water" switched on. For other graphical issies please visit Springrts.com.

It has been a long time since the last update. Actually I was waiting for the next stable and fully working Spring engine release. I skipped Spring 93.0-94.0 for several different reasons/issues and thus it took some time. Spring 95.0 looks stable and offers tons of bug fixes and new features. Besides making The Cursed ready for the new engine version, lots of things were changed and added to the game.

The game´s economy was drastically changed, as it felt a little “broken” before. The most important thing is, that units do not need energy as upkeep anymore. To compensate for the free energy amount, metal extractors need more power to run. Newly built metal extractors will take some time to reach the maximum extraction speed (progressive mining). Moreover, storage buildings were added to increase your metal and energy capacity.

As a second major change, the cursed faction was strengthened. The shade hero unit has a circle attack now, that hits all nearby enemies. Some units and buildings take more damage. The obelisks have a bigger building range. Burrowed units can not be seen anymore if you walk close to them. … and … and …

Of course, also lots of polishing was done – just check the latest installer.Especially enjoy the new undead marines!

really dislike the use of an upside down pentagram as as a front image/icon for the game, if not for that, would have downloaded it right away.

I changed the icon but I don't see why someone should have any strong feelings about symbols in games. The Cursed contains pure fictional artwork without any real religious or occult statements. A pentagram (you can find some more in game btw.) just fits perfectly to the undead/demonic scenery. I would have used purple flower-symbols if Eliphas Lévi had introduced these as occult symbols that attract sinister forces.

Interestingly I was rather expecting opinions about the usage of real religious symbols like the Christian cross for the priests and paladins. ;)

Uhh, come on now, that is ridiculous.
And you don't buy Heineken beer because it has a red star and thus commie?
It's just a game, it won't kill you. I used to be religious and even back then I didn't give a damn about pentagrams and goats.

Wow, man,
Upside down pentagram compared to the red star on an Heineken bottle, with such a tight simile like that you must be a writer... (sarc.)
In some religions and/ or spiritual practices this symbols have very Strong meanings, I just think it's an drag to run into.

These are just symbols, and if you are the one that sees them, they can have neither importance nor meaning to you. Also, sigils bind only those who blindly create them.

The so-called upside down pentagram is just a symbol of matter over mind, materialism/physical over altruism/spiritual, and the "normal" pentagram - of mind over matter.

And no, these symbols aren't "evil" or "good" themselves.

It's how you react to them that can be harmful or helpful towards others. Some men seeing a naked woman will ignore her or treat her as if she was dressed (will think nothing of it) or try to put some clothes on her, while others could only stare lustfully at her.

So see? The reaction to the situation counts, not the situation itself.

All things in perspective, I agree in most cases. In the case of God however, God exists outside of relativity. God isn't relative. You can believe what you want, I am not trying to force you to be Christian, just stating that he had a reason to be upset by that symbol.

What I believe, is that the pentagram is just a symbol and has no power, and like you said, is essentially just a red star on a bottle cap, but the thing is, it does represent evil, (like you said, red star, communism), and to some people, that's going to bother them. You think nearly half as many people would drink Heinekin if it was a swastica instead of a red star?

Edit: Someone else said the communism bit, sorry. Replied to the wrong person...lol

I actually shouldn't crash. Can You give me a short summary of what you did to start the game (what lobby options you used) and send me the file called "infolog.txt" from to game directory to azaremoth@web.de please. I'll see if I can find the bug then =)

GeneralKong showed that there is a probleme with the AI "AAI" causing the game to crash. I recomment to use another AI like "Shard" if problemes occur. Moreover check that you are in the Skirmish game mode - the "Sandbox" and "Feature placer" modes (these are for testing and map developement) will probably cause problemes with the skirmish AIs.
