The Curse of the Nordic Cove is a story-centric Survival-Horror game with several familiar elements of gameplay for all gaming fans from First Person Shooter, Sports, Puzzle-Solving, Driving, Strategic Shooting, Stealth and Dungeon Crawling. Jason Schreier of Kotaku said, "...this golf-simulator-slash-action--adventure title thinks outside the box. I saw it on the PAX East show floor last weekend and thought it was so bizarre, I had to tape it". Curtis Stone form Front Towards Gamer wrote, "The Curse of Nordic Cove is a very unique title set in a world unlike anything you've probably seen or played before. Combining your golf (yes, golf) skills with your surely honed fps talents to create a title that is borderline insanity... in a good way".
My word this game is frustrating! The controls are aren't too responsive. The mouse sensitivity is way too high on it's lowest setting. Collision detection had problems for me. I have a decent system and I set graphics on low quality and it would still have problems at odd times. Events in the game would fail to trigger. Sometime I would be put in situations without any explanation of what I was expected to do. (So when I was stuck, I never knew if it was me or the game.) It autosaved several times when I was either stuck in scenery or on the verge of tipping over and dieing. I just can't think of all the problem I ran into trying to complete this game. It took a few evens to win the final fight because there was no direction as to what I was supposed to do. Once I figured that out I had to reload dozens of time just to get the game to initialize the level right so I could play it. Q/A is really lacking.
And that's a shame. The game is a bizarre mix of genres. The story and characters are quirky but consistent. I think it was funny. Definitely not for kids. It would be a really great game if it weren't for the quality problems. Unfortunately, the biggest fight in the game is getting it to work.
