You can do many things in Terraria: make weapons and fight off a variety of enemies in numerous biomes, dig deep underground to find accessories, money, and other useful things, gather wood, stone, ores, and other resources to create everything you need to make the world your own and defend it. Build a house, a fort, even a castle, and people will move in to live there and perhaps even sell you different wares to assist you on your journey. But beware, there are even more challenges awaiting you... Are you up to the task?

As it turns out, version 1.3 – the most recent update to Terraria – will be Redigit’s last update for Terraria. No need to worry though, he’s only passing the work onto the rest of the Re-Logic team[...]

i like both. they're both similar but they both have things about them that are fantastic. i would suggest at least trying both. personally i lean a little more towards minecraft. whoever said modding is too hard doesn't know what they're talking about, google and the minecraft forums do wonders (search for MCPatcher ;) ).

Own this game and love it, V1.1 I have not tried yet but im looking forward to it when I get back into it. Keep up the good work on it.

Also to answer ur Q, id say get Minecraft if you want free-roaming,3d environments with lite survivor or get Terraria if you like 2d , Castlevania 2d free roaming with custom made maps, and custom made adventure maps by the community.

In terms of which has more mods, I believe both have a good host of mods. I own both Minecraft and terraria (got Minecraft in a giveaway 2 days ago) so I cannot say much other then that.

I'd suggest both. Although I've only played Minecraft so far, everything I've seen or heard about Terraria is excellent and I'm looking forward to purchasing it once I build a proper rig. If you want a staight-up suggestion though, I'd recommend Terraria if you want a more guided, polished experience, and I'd recommend Minecraft if you want a more free-form sandbox type of game. Either way, they both provide excellent and utterly unique gaming experiences and are well worth your time and money.

modding is simple in mincraft you just need brains to read the instalation to them. muiltiplayer is even better simple to connect but it is better if you know a prviate server for few people, In terraria there is bareley any mods but the muiltiplayer is ok but hard to connect to.
Both good games Both have flaws.

Minecraft isn't on Steam because Notch refused to put it on steam, nothing to do with the (ugly) java.

I like Terraria, but I won't vote on you as it's Windows only. Games being cross-platform is really important.

The game adds classic RPG elements with many of the elements found in minecraft. You can spend hours exploring, fighting in dungeons, building, digging, and so much more. It also contains combining things to make tons of stuff, from potions, to amazing armor and weapons.
Its a blast at first,(and hours later) but it becomes slightly repetitive. After you have amazing armor and weapons it can take a lot of the fun out.
But overall I'd have to say the game is definatly worth your time and money.
