I entirely agree, the hats are just another marketing strategy to get your money after Valve discovered how much these idiots like these hats. Why would you even pay for these hats, i dont even want them for free. Also just imagine CSS getting these hats, Valve would get flamed and trolled to hell and back. TF2 is just a crappy game, and deserves crappy hats. And Valve gets their money. Also this is all based on my opinion, don't like it? Then be happy it isn't your opinion. And for people that got offended, oh my bad, but at the sime time i don't really care about hat lovers. :/
On the other hand, everyone buy these hats! So Valve can finally release their masterpiece HL3.
you sir, are a cretin, its a free game and a lot of stuf can be made, they could have not made the game free, they could be like runescape and give free players a fraction of what members get, if they wanted to they could do a wow and have NO free players, but no, they give a free game with a way to buy things to make your charecter look cool. dont wand a hat dont buy one but dont complain that they give you the option!

Am I selfish for not wanting my game to look excessively goofy and unoptimized?
How is it out-of-context? An extra ton of models, textures and sprites (for unusual hats) which increments nothing into the game utilizes extra processing power that could've been used to achieve a higher "FPS" rate, creating a more enjoyable gameplay experience with less stuttering, specially for a fast-paced game like this.
Besides, most of them look terrible and out-of-place.

Do you even know what "unoptimised" means? Because that comment uses the word so horribly out of context, I think you're trying to use words you don't know just to sound smarter.
It's not your game. You don't want the game to look goofy? Don't wear hats. You are practically demanding that other players not wear hats, just so the game will look better to you. That IS selfish. It's a multiplayer game, therefore, you do not have control over the other players. Go play a single player game if it bothers you so much.
