TANK@WAR update 1.2.1 has arrived!
 
We are happy to announce that TANK@WAR 1.2.1 has been released and has been made available for download!

This update includes the following changes:

  • Added fast tank shadows
  • Added power ups in the world
  • Added option to randomly generate your tank setup
  • Added new vegetation models and textures
  • Added light effects fading over time
  • Added bots, computer controlled tanks
  • Added wind simulation for trees and vegetation
  • Added option to configure decal & particle effects (low, medium & high)
  • Added penalty when changing tank when still alive
  • Added respawn time for tank change
  • Added wind direction to particle effects
  • Improved video options (more intuitive)
  • Improved map load times
  • Improved player join with tank load times
  • Improved textures of a tank platform model
  • Improved coloring and reach of some of the lighting effects
  • Fixed random spawn bug
  • Fixed black screen in Free Hills on some video cards
  • Fixed sound volume on start up & when entering a map
  • Fixed respawn bug in Team Deathmatch
  • Fixed fallback bump map shading when advanced shader is not fully supported

I really enjoyed your game, but when I noticed that some opponents tank deals more damage than mine I rage quitted, as everytime when a game insults sportsmanship.

Since indie games don't tend to have a huge multiplayer population, i.e. thousands of players playing at the same time, trying to level up, improving their gear and competing - if you add a perk system, why not making it session based instead: the better you play in the CURRENT round, the better tank gear is available (for money) when you return to the loadout (base) after dieing. Maybe even allow to steal gear from destroyed enemies/teammates or allow team mates to donate points. There are enough ways to let players improve gearwise without being permanent.

I would enjoy if the maps would feature objectives/areas that are worth defending or that give tactical advantage. You could even allow players to capture strategic buildings on the map that unlock better gear for money. Even as a pure deathmatch game tankwars could be more indepth IMO.

Thanks for your insight! We'd like to add multiple new game modes in the future.

We eventually might add player progression; More points to spent, Upgrades that can be unlocked (maybe per session or overall).

At the moment though, you have the option to customize your tank using 15 points, as do all the other players. I think you accidentally skipped the tank workshop menu with the default (read: weakest & slowest!) tank. Make sure you customize your tank using all available points!

Perhaps the opponent you faced did even more damage than the strongest tank gun available, but that'd mean he had 3 kills in a row and had chosen a damage power up (which is active until killed).

Actually those 'people' were not human. Those ten were bots.
Though I have to admit I found the multiple attempts (probably not just you) to join the server pretty funny, I understand your frustration.

We still have a small user base as you noticed, so we took to implementing bots.

In the meantime I'd recommend you share and play with your friends if possible =).

Game isn't bad but have enourmous apetite for memory. With 1280x1024 res and all settings maxed, it uses almost 1.5 GB of RAM!

Yup, it uses waaaaaay too much recources as for such low-quality game. No offense. But amateur (non-commercial, ok) project without advanced graphics shouldn't eat ******* 1,5-2 GBs of RAM.

1,5Gb? Ran it 800x600 in windowed mode settings not maxed. Used over 1,5Gb of ram :O
In fact it ate practically all the ram I had left over and started lagging like a mother..

If I try this game again I'll remember to try and have 0mem usage before I start it

This is an issue with the way we load vegetation, if you turn the vegetation slider all the way down you should have some more free memory, hopefully enabling you to play smoothly.

In the future we'd like to apply instancing so it will hardly use any memory.

my hdd indicator lights all the time and i have to "killall Client" from tty2 to get access to my system. game works good under wine in fedora 16

The game is fun, but it doesn't run well on my computer anymore. Still, that just means you guys have advanced the graphics. Keep up the good work! :)
