System Shock 2 begins with you being unfrozen from a long cryogenic sleep aboard the Rickenbacker, a security spaceship assigned to tail the Von Braun on her maiden voyage. Apparently, the Von Braun has been infested by an unknown alien race and has converted the crew into relatively intelligent zombies. You must gather bits of audio clips along the way to figure out what happened to your crew and, more importantly, how you can rid the ship of the aliens. Rely on your skills training from either the Navy, Marines, or OSA to guide you on this difficult path. This 3D title offers unbelievable graphics, as the Thief engine is utilized to provide mouth-watering environments and character skins. The astounding graphics, varied RPG elements, and fluid action make this title worthwhile.

This patch will allow players with Windows XP/2000 to play System Shock 2 without problems. ***NOTE: THIS IS NOT a NOCD/Crack! You still require the original System Shock 2 CD!*** Installation notes: - Patch the game to the latest version found on the Irrational Games homepage, 3DGamers, or any other popular gaming sites. - Backup and replace the existing .exe with the patched file and play the game. Note: Users with Intel Hyperthreading Technology must turn it off to avoid crashes/complications. Also, if you're having problems installing System Shock 2 in Windows 2000: - Open a command prompt. Change the directory to your CD and type "setup -lgntforce " This should allow you to install the game as normal.

I downloaded the patch and the game works but the videos dont
Man...after trying to run the game for 3days I, thought I could never run it on my PC - even after applying all Win Xp patches (My OS: Win XP with SP2).
After going through various search results....i found a link to a topic on the Nvidia forums regarding SS2.
The reason why this game won't run on many systems (including mine) is because of the architecture of Nvidia 8800 series gfx cards (7 & 9 series also) as well as their drivers. I have an 8800 GT & ForceWare driver 175.16 installed on my system. Even ATi cards suffer from these issues.
System Shock 2 is a "Dark Engine" game, its rendering & dithering method is not supported by these modern GPUs & their drivers, the engine also suffers from texture corruption....reason for the game not being able to run. So, it’s a hardware as well as software issue.

Man that rapidshare file got it to work for me 4870X2, 3870, x1950xtx and my 9800 pro perfectly, I tested it out on all 4 of my rigs which are ATI and all on Windows Xp SP3.
