Alpha 9.2
Aug 21, 2011 Demo 11 commentsPlease remember this is a very, very alpha release, Borderline pre-alpha. We release this in hopes we can share our progress every step of the way during...

Survivors of Ragnarök is a city-building-management-survival game about chickens.
Explore
Lead your company of dwarfs into high mountain passes, deep into dangerous forests, scorching deserts, and into the dark underbelly of the earth and back.

It's adventure mode with a cooler name. Reclaim your fortress, venture into the wilderness, explore other settlements, and delve into depe dungeons in search of rare and valuable artifacts in THE BEST rogue-like-platformer-rpg yet to be made.

Encounter Bizarre and dangerous creatures from dwarf-eating-tiger-snails, flying pigs, bishop-fishes, and Chickthulhu (100% our idea and totally not suggested by an annoying community member named Thoktaz).

Yeah we know, it's awesome.
Gotta Catch 'em All!
Unlock dozens of unique dwarfs only to die by your hands moments later.

With all the dry humor, charm, wit, and satire you've come to expect from us bundled in an epic historically accurate retelling of the events after everyone's favorite end of the world scenario (next to the zombie-apocalypse, but trust me we have that covered). Expect to be taking part in such epic and grand historical battles such as the Battle of Basing and the Battle of Svolder.
Bellow we have provided a historically accurate depiction of the Battle of Clontarf on April 23, 1024 (your gonna have to trust us on this one guys, it's legit).

Now this might just be our personal bias, but we believe we have some pretty sweet pixel art. Each and every pixel lovingly hand-drawn and animated frame by frame.

Zap! Zap! Zap! Here at French Rice Games one of our many jobs is to bring you bug fixes for unfinished games that need a lot of work in a relatively late manner. We could give you some boring details about life and only being being developed by two individuals who both are full-time students and have part time jobs... but we won’t bore you with all those boring bits. We’ll simply just copy and paste some wonderful patch notes you guys might find entertaining and continue on with development.

Alongside some minor bug fixes we are gearing up our combat system for use with equipment. Here’s what we have in mind.
SoR Stat System
These start out randomly between 10 and 15.
50% of the Exp given for every other task(skill usage) will be given to the Dwarfs main level.
The Dwarfs main level take 3x to 5x as much Exp to level up.
Base Stats increase with the dwarfs level, NOT by usage.
Base Stat Level Calculation: level = ((maxLevel + geneBonus + personalityBonus) /maxLevel)*dwarfLevel)
Static Values:
maxLevel = 1000
geneBonus = (0<->10)*20
personalityBonus = (100 if it is the dwarfs personality)
Each personality will increase a base stat improvement rate by about 10%.
Genes effect base stats by 0 to 10%.
A random value will be determined that will create a number between 0 and 5.
That value is the dwarfs gene for that particular stat.
The gene multiplied by 20 equals the bonus.
Skills level with usage following the function: (4*(x^3))/5Genes that control this function may be added later.

Haven't been playing it for very long, but it is certainly amazing right now, despite being a bit buggy and lacking content! If you like the sims, minecraft, adorable pixel chickens, and dwarves who climb blocks like newborn kittens climb stairs, you will love this game!

FrenchRiceGames, I am disappoint D: This game is in development for almost one full year. The last updates added gimmicky nonsense like pumpkin patches and candy, rather than adding to the base of the game itself. Other games in a similar state of development offer much more actual gameplay and potential. (Project Zomboid, Towns, heck even Kenshi) Reading the update logs makes me feel like the developers don't even care about the game. I mean sure they pump in tons of self-made pixel art of things…

when will alpha 23 be available for linux? In alpha 21, the crafting isn't working for me.....
PS: I love the game. Go on with the great work!
Garrett's confirmed, the mac version is working on all platforms. So download this one for now.
I'm going to rename the stand alone to reflect that it is for all platforms.
thanks a lot!
Wow..i know this is alpha and all..but my god, i've never playing anything so...glitchy. The game suddenly went to a black screen telling me how long i've survived...YET none of my dwarves were dead.
I had another instance that the game just froze and crashed while digging into the stone layer. I've also had wierd instances where the dwarves will just constantly be in the "gathering" animation, in MID AIR and staying there till the actual ragnarok for all i know.
The tutorial, while witty, doesn't really help as it glosses over the important aspects like crafting...a more, say, involved tutorial would be better as reading it clearly doesn't get the point across (as most things in the internet tend to be)
Luckily it's alpha...so this and more will likely be fixed...
Also, a click and drag for the while selecting/digging thing would be less annoying...though if it does do that it sure isn't showing it when i click and drag to select blocks.
Your dwarfs all died at the same probably. It was most likely because you didn't give them any beds to sleep in.
then you've never played an alpha before.
Yeah i have..plenty of them. Most of them were never glitched to the point of being semi-unplayable like this. Furthermore, you missed where i stated "Luckily this is Alpha, so this and more will likely be fixed."
If i've never played an alpha before, i would likely be saying something on the lines of: "OMG this game is so broken it's not even finished, etc, etc etc."
So again, i've played ALPHA state games and i know that the bugs will be fixed, things will improve and it will be more playable than it currently is. It's just i've had the (mis?)fortune of not playing an Alpha game that was buggy to the point i could not play or enjoy it some till now.
Still can't turn the music off.
