Alpha 9.2
Aug 21, 2011 Demo 11 commentsPlease remember this is a very, very alpha release, Borderline pre-alpha. We release this in hopes we can share our progress every step of the way during...

Survivors of Ragnarök is a city-building-management-survival game about chickens.
Explore
Lead your company of dwarfs into high mountain passes, deep into dangerous forests, scorching deserts, and into the dark underbelly of the earth and back.

It's adventure mode with a cooler name. Reclaim your fortress, venture into the wilderness, explore other settlements, and delve into depe dungeons in search of rare and valuable artifacts in THE BEST rogue-like-platformer-rpg yet to be made.

Encounter Bizarre and dangerous creatures from dwarf-eating-tiger-snails, flying pigs, bishop-fishes, and Chickthulhu (100% our idea and totally not suggested by an annoying community member named Thoktaz).

Yeah we know, it's awesome.
Gotta Catch 'em All!
Unlock dozens of unique dwarfs only to die by your hands moments later.

With all the dry humor, charm, wit, and satire you've come to expect from us bundled in an epic historically accurate retelling of the events after everyone's favorite end of the world scenario (next to the zombie-apocalypse, but trust me we have that covered). Expect to be taking part in such epic and grand historical battles such as the Battle of Basing and the Battle of Svolder.
Bellow we have provided a historically accurate depiction of the Battle of Clontarf on April 23, 1024 (your gonna have to trust us on this one guys, it's legit).

Now this might just be our personal bias, but we believe we have some pretty sweet pixel art. Each and every pixel lovingly hand-drawn and animated frame by frame.

...And you all deserve to know what’s been going on.
Why haven’t we been updating?
There is no excuse for such a long break from updates, but our supporters should know why we haven’t updated. Simply speaking, Genel and I have been experiencing some big transitions in our life. As some of you may know already, we both have been attending university while working on SoR. I’m happy to say that I have finally finished.
“Now I have a piece of paper that says I’m a programmer”
The normal stresses of completing a degree, like taking a few more credits than usual to graduate on time and passing, really strapped me for time. Add switching jobs to that mix and you get unfortunately late updates such as this. Genel too was in a similar boat(although he still has some college left to come), but luckily he has found an interesting position doing graphic design that has better hours than his previous job.
All of this means we have more time that SoR, and all of you, deserve.
Give us new stuff to play with already!
Coming out in alpha 27 we have a big crafting rework. The system now keeps track of all items in stockpiles and automatically removes them when a dwarf crafts an item. Now instead of spending minutes walking back and forth collecting the items to craft, a fraction of the time is spent walking over to the proper craft building to create the object. This won’t take away from the strategy or simulation aspects, as your dwarfs still need all the supplies gathered up into the stockpile before crafting will finish. This new system is possible because now, all items in the game world are kept track of in a persistent list.
In alpha 26 we talked about our combat and stat system. Both systems are fleshed out, but mean very little without weapons and armor to equip. The above crafting system changes should make it easier to stockpile your armories and weaponize your dwarves.
Looking Ahead
We have a few secret ideas we've been keeping for a special update in the future and we still want to keep some of that as a surprise, but I think you’ll all appreciate a glimpse of what our plan is for moving ahead.
Better and more complex map generation, including caves, dungeons, and unique biomes, is very high up on our list. More complex inter-dwarf and dwarf society features are going to be getting worked on as well. Things like dwarf house zones, hangout zones, etc. I have also taken a personal interest in working out some sort of system that would allow players to add custom items, weapons and armor, but that will have to wait until the core game is mostly finished(Free DLC?).
I sincerely hope this post clarified our situation and put your concerns at ease. I assure you that we are not dead and that we are committed to making SoR great.

Haven't been playing it for very long, but it is certainly amazing right now, despite being a bit buggy and lacking content! If you like the sims, minecraft, adorable pixel chickens, and dwarves who climb blocks like newborn kittens climb stairs, you will love this game!

FrenchRiceGames, I am disappoint D: This game is in development for almost one full year. The last updates added gimmicky nonsense like pumpkin patches and candy, rather than adding to the base of the game itself. Other games in a similar state of development offer much more actual gameplay and potential. (Project Zomboid, Towns, heck even Kenshi) Reading the update logs makes me feel like the developers don't even care about the game. I mean sure they pump in tons of self-made pixel art of things…

I, as well as many others would also do, advise no-one to buy this game until it is fixed to a playable standard. I know you are probably saying 'but it is an alpha game, stop complaining about a few bugs'. It is not a few bugs, it is lots of them and they are game breaking. If you must for some reason download it then only get the chicken edition, you can upgrade to a paid edition when you know for certain the game is playable. Do not make the mistake of handing your money over just yet, the less money they get the more chance the bugs shall be fixed unless they give up working on it full stop. Do not take the chance... You have been warned.

Wow dude your such an *******. You are insulting these people in there faces and don't give a **** because you lost what? 5 bucks? Go cry about it somewhere else. I know you are warning people that this ain't complete and its not what u expected but you just went and cross the line. These guys are slow in the developing the game yea. But you don't know what there current situation is. If they are having problems with their families or health problems, etc. You people have got to understand that they pretty much are doing there best at this and am sure is there dream to make it come true. Its not easy for them but neither for us. Just please have patience for those who bought it and for those that will buy it its up to you and there is the free version to try anyway.
No offence, linkhero, but normally I would agree with what you're saying, just not in this case. This game has been in alpha funding for more than a year and it is still not even in a playable, stable condition. These guys really should have had more to show for their time by now.
Poseidon's balls! You know when the right time to put in a 'mute music' option is? WHEN YOU FIRST ADD MUSIC TO THE GAME! Do you know how long it takes to implement? TEN FREAKING MINUTES! This game doesn't meet the basic expectations I have for even an alpha game. Hell, this game doesn't meet my expectations of a blank .txt document. I literally programmed a better game than this while typing this comment.
I took a risk and bought it but I wish I never did now. My people will not move and i cannot even click on them. When I click the ground to be dug up it just disappears no matter where I press... I have basically bought a static game, please please fix and update this game.
I feel sorry for the people who bought the valkyrie edition, unless they are actually being prioritised and being updated whilst the people who bought the settler edition, as I did, must wait a year for a fix. The chicken edition will no doubt remain broken forever.
The valkyrie edition is like 5 updates ahead of settlers and settlers is like 3 ahead of chicken so... valkyrie guys get quite more better stuff. Still broken though
Does this game still get updated, I cant even find anything on this one. The devs are sure quiet and im thus not investing in this one.
I keep watching this game with interest but everytime I look there is barely an update. Once there is something sorted with the crashing and something to make it at least playable I will buy it. Don't get me wrong here, I do expect bugs in an alpha game but bugs that makes a game unplayable should be patched asap. More development on the game could mean more support and once I see regular patches being made it shall be on my play list.
Looks like they released alpha 25 yesterday but forgot to post the PC version of it on here.
