StarFire was created with the intention to provide a tool to explore the depths of the universe and its secrets in a playful, educational, and thought-provoking manner. In order to do so, the player must design his spacecraft in such way it fits his individual needs and play style, and most importantly, withstands the dangers that linger in the dark. As such, StarFire implements models based on science, and may also cross the border between reality and the paranormal.

My goodness, this looks wonderful. First Scrumbleship gets much improved graphics, and now being able paint directly on our ships? Looks like my favourite space ship developers are on a roll tonight! :D

Does this mean this will eventually be like a Photoshop-like image editor? (well, less advanced but in a similar spirit)

hehe :D

Yes, the final image editor will work similar to photoshop indeed. There are a few restrictions to this because the layers will be used for specific purposes, i.e. paint layer to apply a maximum of ~4-6 colors (painting only), another for details (image only) and the last being a decals layer (image only). There is going to be a lot of presets for this too (details, decals, stripes, vinyls...), so you don't have to do everything from scratch.

Layering will also come in handy for displaying damage and other conditions on a spacecraft, and has various other purposes (planets could make use of this as well). I am a bit excited for this, actually.

Description

Some progress of the Image Painter. On the left, you can see a composite image using layers and layer blending methods (normal, subtract and multiply should be seen here) and on the right you can see the images of the unmodified layers.

This system is going to be used to paint your own spacecraft. You'll love it!
