StarDrive is a 4X Action-Strategy game where the goal is to build a space empire. Starting with a single planet and a small number of space-worthy vessels, you forge out into the galaxy, exploring new worlds, building new colonies, and discovering the StarDrive universe. The heart of StarDrive is its ship design and combat engine. StarDrive takes a module-based approach to ship design, allowing the player to create custom ship designs where the composition and placement of ship modules really matters to the performance of a ship in combat. In combat, if your portside armor is taking a beating, then rotate around and show them the starboard side! Hide behind a friendly capital ship's shields, warp into and out of the fray, launch fighters, lay mines, and so much more.

StarDrive development is going strong and we are on target to meet all of our timing goals. I've seen a few postings here in the comments that there have been no updates for 3 months. And, looking at the news section here, that's true!

However, this is because we shifted everything over to our new website and forums. For the main updates on game progress, please register at and become a member of our forum!

Every time there is news or a discussion of features, it will be there on the forum. It is also the best place to request features and to highlight any bugs you find in the alpha tests.

A new patch will be posted to Desura today, so stay tuned for those patch notes.

Looking at the Kickstarter page reveals, that the final game costs 10 bucks, but the final game with alpha/beta access costs 15 bucks or more. Hmmmmm.. Reverse-Minecraft pretty much?

Well, I could get Sword of the Stars for that price tag, but how are you going to expand the game? Superweapons? Deathstars? Custom/Scaleable hulls?

The combat (especially the capital ships) could need a little more impact, a la Battlestar Galactica though. Other than that, it looks like a funny 4X concept.

As kickstarter backer I am very disatisfied to see it released here while kickstarters don't have access to the game.

Due to this I rate this game a 1 due to lack of support of the developer for early supporters. Due to this I don't expect the developer to support this game long-term.
