StarDrive is a 4X Action-Strategy game where the goal is to build a space empire. Starting with a single planet and a small number of space-worthy vessels, you forge out into the galaxy, exploring new worlds, building new colonies, and discovering the StarDrive universe. The heart of StarDrive is its ship design and combat engine. StarDrive takes a module-based approach to ship design, allowing the player to create custom ship designs where the composition and placement of ship modules really matters to the performance of a ship in combat. In combat, if your portside armor is taking a beating, then rotate around and show them the starboard side! Hide behind a friendly capital ship's shields, warp into and out of the fray, launch fighters, lay mines, and so much more.

StarDrive development is going strong and we are on target to meet all of our timing goals. I've seen a few postings here in the comments that there have been no updates for 3 months. And, looking at the news section here, that's true!

However, this is because we shifted everything over to our new website and forums. For the main updates on game progress, please register at and become a member of our forum!

Every time there is news or a discussion of features, it will be there on the forum. It is also the best place to request features and to highlight any bugs you find in the alpha tests.

A new patch will be posted to Desura today, so stay tuned for those patch notes.

Is this a non steam version and does it has a standalone installer?

It's important to me to gat a DRM-free version (must be up to date).

I thought it was DRM-free, to be fair, even the version from Steam.

stoked for my steam key.

i bought this game way too long ago to mind waiting any longer.

i suppose i'll get it when i get it.

as for this ridiculous argument about "Who's fault it is" i'd say its as much everyone involved's fault.

the dev made an empty promise because he didn't expect (?) to sell so many copies in alpha.
everyone insulting the dev for not giving them a steam key for his product (cause that somehow helps)

getting pissy in the comment section isn't helping you get your steam keys lol
(just like my not being a **** isn't helping me get mine)
to be honest, i'm just happy that i will be getting one.

everyone needs to calm down, people who bought the game on steam included.
obviously they're on the dev's side because they were provided with keys immediately.

i played what desura had of this a month or so ago.
god damn i can't wait to shift this one to my steam library. its gonna be grand.
in the meantime, i'll get back to playing gnomoria

congratulation on scamming your alpha-funders and kickstarter backers! very well done!

quote from stardrives 10$ kickstarter pledge: "Receive the digital version of StarDrive upon its release. Receive a supporter credit in the game." .......... oh wait, they DIDN'T receive the game upon its nice of the developer!!!

also i bought the game over a year ago at desura and still have the overly bugged beta version and besides fps drops and still incomplete events and minor races (which in the actual release are still missing), i can't even load a save game! but yeah, go on and bash you customers on the forums and laugh about them!

how can you possibly think that it's desuras fault for being desura and analyzing each update?! if you know that an update takes 1 or 2 weeks then why not update in the needed timeframe?! because the game isn't finished even now and steam offers a much quicker updating system and has the bigger audience, so yeah of course you can forget your customers at desura and your early investors. also call them "ill minded" like on your forums!

nice to know for future products you hope to scam people with!!!!!!!!

The keys have been sent out to Kickstarter people and to Desura Alpha funders.

Calm the **** down.

Right click on the StarDrive alpha in the games list in the Desura client and click "view key". That will give you your steam key.

Wow, well maybe you haven't noticed that he is making this game by him self.

Do you know how hard it is to develop a game much less do pretty much everything alone? You guys could at least show some form of patience.

Sure maybe it might take him a awhile to get the latest version to desura users, also he is giving steam keys for desura to distribute, so once that happens then if you don't get keys its more desuras fault then his.

Oh and one more thing this is zer0sums first game, so most likely he is just learning how to everything properly. Yes there is a learning curve when creating something for the first time.

Xerberus86 Apr 29 2013, 12:59pm replied:

the only problem is that he knew that he couldn't finish the game until release, be it desura or steam.....the game still misses content like incomplete events for example. furthermore, yes, he has no obligaton to deliver his desura customers steam keys, but his obligation was and is to deliver the finished product at the announced release date to his customers and to make sure that his publishing partners can fulfill their roles, which in case of desura wasn't possible because he knew how long it takes them!

he could have at least one or two days before the release announced at desura and his forum that he can't make sure that the release version will be delivered on the release date to desura users and informed them! he had not even the time or sense to write one or two simple sentences to his alpha-funders who are still waiting for their game.

THAT is the main problem, not some hurt feelings because somebody didn't get a steam key. the steam key would have been the plan b for the desura customers and a means to receive the game at the aforementioned date.

Based on the alpha it has alot of potential!

Lowest Rated (6 agree) 1/10

As kickstarter backer I am very disatisfied to see it released here while kickstarters don't have access to the game.

Due to this I rate this game a 1 due to lack of support of the developer for early supporters. Due to this I don't expect the developer to support this game long-term.
