Star Wars: Imperial Winter is a free, multi-platform, real time strategy game using the open-source Spring RTS engine. Featuring over a hundred different units for the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance, spanning from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi, SW:IW aims to not only contain the best gameplay of any Star Wars RTS, but the most diverse cast of units, including: Stormtroopers, TIE Fighters, X-Wings, stealthy Rebel Commandos, Bothan spies, Royal Guards, Wookiees, "reactivated" Battle Droids, repulsorlift tanks, walkers, and more! Gameplay features include asymmetrical balance, with the two factions playing very differently from each other; territory-based constant-income resource system allowing a fluid economy rather than paying upfront; realistic weapon physics, with every single projectile's path is realistically calculated, meaning your men can hide behind a hill from enemy laser fire but not from an artillery cannon, and many other features.

A few changes have been made to this page, which I'll explain here to avoid confusion. The current state of this mod has been changed from 'Released' to 'Internal Alpha'. We have now moved onto the second stage of our program, and our goals have shifted from getting Star Wars TA into a playable version that everyone could play as soon as possible, to creating a custom built game for the Spring Engine.

A few changes have been made to this page, which I'll explain here to avoid confusion.

The current state of this mod has been changed from 'Released' to 'Internal Alpha'.

The original 1.0 release was a port of Star Wars Total Annihilation, a mod for the game Total Annihilation. In this regard, we made minor balance changes, and only updated a few particularly nasty art pieces, such as the infantry models. While it still involved quite a large amount of work to get it ready, it was ultimately designed to let people play Star Wars TA on Spring as soon as possible, and so was reasonably 'rough around the edges' - as PCZone (UK) put it. We nonetheless achieved this aim with considerable success, the first release being downloaded over 10,000 times (almost 3000 from our moddb page alone!).

However, we have now moved onto the second stage of our program, and our goals have shifted from getting Star Wars TA into a playable version that everyone could play as soon as possible, to creating a custom built game for the Spring Engine; a truly modern game built for a modern engine, with high-quality art, and a revised and updated balance designed to reflect both the new possibilities of the Spring engine, as well as our maturing game design knowledge.

Essentially, our next release - SWS2.0, will be a total reworking of SWS. Every element of art is being reworked, and the balance is being significantly altered. You will barely be able to recognise SWS1.0 from SWS2.0

Don't be too concerned though; we haven't gone back to square one. We've been working on this next release for the better part of a year now. Progress is going well, with over half of the required work for the final release having been completed. We are currently working towards a closed beta release, with a final public release targeted at the first quarter of 2008.

Finally, please check our 'help wanted' page; we are seeking:
- Talented Texture artists
- Sound Engineers
- Voice Actors
- Code Monkeys, preferably with an interest in animation, or experience with LUA.

May the Force be with you,
Warlord Zsinj
Co-Lead,
Star Wars Spring
