It's finished! After lots of blood, sweat, and bugs (programming, not the living kind), our first independent project is complete. As you know, Bloodlines represents our first effort with Adam's Zol engine, so feedback would be very appreciated. Most importantly, have fun playing the game!

Bloodlines is more of a 'performance tryout' on my end. I know that Majik Monkee had this storyline sitting around for a long time and that he was glad to get it into playable form.

The next project, which isn't on moddb.com yet, is nearly complete code-wise, but progress has slowed because we're working on the art. Future projects will contain all original artwork.

Good to hear. :-) We've tried to be very open about what our intentions with the project were, and passing the art off as our own wasn't one of them. We'd really like to know how the engine fares overall more than anything, and a lot of the features and special features that are not in Yoda Stories I hope will be appreciated by FF/Zelda type game fans. The game has it's share of secrets accessed in different ways.

Even though the graphics aren't of their own creation, I can definitely understand where the mod makers are coming from with this project. And certainly if it's a stepping stone to bigger and better games with original art and a new engine, then more power to them.

Nice work on this one, guys. I know I'll be giving it a go.

For those looking for the actual download, you can get it here: Moddb.com
The Downloads tab on the mod profile doesn't show it yet, but it has been authorized.

Haha, oh wow. Nolstagia!

Did you rip the sprites from Yoda Stories? I hope not (and yes I did think of this from the picture before I read Cheapy's comment) :X

Majik Monkee will have to tell you how he got them. I only provided the engine. He did answer this partly here:

Hey, folks. I see a lot of comments on the use of the Yoda Stories graphics. I understand a lot of you would have liked to see something totally original. Well, you will, just not for this game. The purpose of Bloodlines was to test the engine we've been working on, and I'm a huge Star Wars fan myself but hated the content of Yoda Stories, so I used the graphics from that game for this project. I did tweak quite a few of them and create animations for several characters that had none in the original game, so it's not all borrowed. If you like the gameplay aspect, though, that's really what we're shooting for here. I know entirely new graphics would have set it apart more as a totally brand new project, but I decided to go this route instead for the aforementioned reasons.

As for how I got the graphics, well, I did it all the old fashioned way - the "print screen" button, then cut the sprite I wanted out of the MS Paint image. Time consuming, I know, but I lacked the technology to pull the graphics out of the game directly, so that was the next best thing.

Isn't that infringing Lucasarts copyright on Yoda Stories?

Posting for Majik Monkee here, he can't access the site at the moment: "As much as borrowing graphics from any other game for a mod is, or using characters or place names for writing fan fiction. We're not making any money off this project nor claiming all the graphics are our own designs."

And for my half... When I added the mod, I agreed that "This mod's concept is unique and original, and I recognise that mods based upon others intellectual property may be closed at the IP owner's request." The storyline is all MM's, the code is mine, the graphics and sounds are about 95% LucasArts. If LucasArts wants to halt this game, I'd definitely respect their decision. Any non-Lucas authorized usage of a Star Wars-looking stormtrooper model, etc. is also infringing his rights because the idea that the model represents is under Lucas' copyright and he can choose to enforce it at will and I think that would take care of just about all Star Wars mods on the internet.

We leave it for the moddb admins to decide what to do. If they remove this project, we'll respect and understand their decision. It has been a personal project from the beginning and we just felt like sharing it.
