Hello Star Wars: Battlecry fans (and the First Strike fans who are also reading this),

Today we have a big bit of news for you folks - the First Strike team is merging with the Star Wars: Battlecry team!
As Chad (new project leader of First Strike explains), 'When the First Strike team looked into switching to the Unreal 4 game engine, it just made sense to look into combining forces instead of starting completely over on a new engine. Both teams have a desire to develop a PC focused Star Wars game that simulates the the role of a trooper fighting for the Rebel or Imperial forces in large scale combined arms battles.' 
 When developing a game for a galaxy far, far away, almost everything has to be created from scratch. One of the things we're exploring at the moment is importing First Strike's large collection of models into the Unreal engine. If assets require improvements or modifications, this can be done but it will hopefully mean things will get done quicker and we can produce the free stand alone Star Wars game fans have been wanting all along. 

On top of that, the fact that we are merging with a very experienced and skilled team is exciting and we look forward to the future! 

We will keep you updated if anything else changes about the game/team.

An interesting idea, though sadly, such ideas will have to wait until other units are figured out. Whenever it is we work on heroes, details such as the effects, range, and other mechanics would have to be figured out first. Balance is certainly the name of the game, despite it really being Battlecry, so making sure everything has its place beside the rest, rather than high above, is a high priority. As always, I'll be seeing YOU!! in my next post. . .BABAI!!

Just curious: since this is going to be a stand-alone game, have you guys considered putting this to Kickstarter? Also, what are your plans considering DICE's Battlefront is scheduled to be released in 2015?

We can't do that due to Copyright issues. We aren't allowed anything at all to do with money apart from donations (100% goes towards our server maintenance and nothing directly to do with the game development).

Our plans regarding the ultra-late 2015 release date for SWBF3? We're not concerned about it - we have our game, they have theirs, that's it really. They'll both be different. We'll try and get a really solid game out by late 2015 and our Alpha is coming this year.

A little early to say what units will be or how many there are. Who knows? We may make a few classes and be done or find some new units added in along the way. Point is we just can't say for sure just yet. You can expect, however, to find the troops reminiscent of Battlefront 2. Much inspiration is being drawn from other battlefront games, so the usual class system will probably fit in somehow.
