Excalibur breaks the mould of traditional space simulation games by putting the player firmly in the boots of an experienced Starfleet captain. From the outset you will be able to control your character and command your ship as if you were standing on the bridge yourself. From taking direct control of the helm, to transferring command of any ship in your task force, or even calling your senior staff to the briefing room to discuss mission tactics; Excalibur is the most immersive Star Trek experience ever. Set six months after the events in Star Trek: Nemesis, Excalibur's story mode deals with the turbulent political scene caused by a decade of war and turmoil. From the second Borg incursion in First Contact, to the fall of the Dominion and the collapse of the Romulan political system; these events resulted in huge loss of life and changed the Alpha Quadrant forever.

Wont happen brah these so called devs are just yanking everyones chain 10 years and not even a playable build means more like maybe a year or 2 of actual deveopment after 10 years if lucky. The whole project is just their hobby in their free time which is why it's free they would have been shut down years ago if they took money.

"so called devs", if it talks like a troll, smells like a troll. Chances are, You... are... a... troll.

Game will be made, regardless if it takes 1 year or 10 years. Don't have the patience to wait, move onto something else. No need to trash the devs for what is essentially a game developed on their spare time. I'd love to see you develop a game from scratch (without "cheating" by using Unity/Unreal Engine or similar).

What troll? People use that term way too much these days. Stating that a game that is taking more than ten years only to now be possibly releasing a very early build of an editor doesn't sound like a game too me. I think you guys are in for a massive disappointment when the game likley doesn't even get released.

I just think it stinks for devs to claim to be making the biggest star trek game ever only to never actually release the game. I understand it's in their free time but um...10 years and not even a playable build tells me they haven't actually worked on it for a huge chunk of those 10 years.

This isn't a game it's just a mod they working on that will never end just like those early access games they never get completed.

These so called devs are the one trolling and trolling everyone hard.

You called me out in regards to using the term 'troll' to describe you and your behavior. Yet you have the nerve, to assume this project to be a "mod". I think YOU need to read up on what constitutes a mod (short for modification). As Excalibur is built on a proprietary home-grown game engine (no affiliation whatsoever with any of the currently existing commercial game engines), there's quite simply no way that this is "just a mod".

Excalibur started out as a mod for Star Trek Bridge Commander, back in 2005/2006, with the intent of adding additional advanced features to the game. It has since grown, and expanded beyond any commercial videogames, into a game project of it's own. While you might feel hurt for the game having taken "at least 10 years" to get to here, you need to understand a few things:

First, the devs owe you (and us) ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The project is theirs, and theirs alone. They are doing it both for fun, and the achievement of having made something of their own. The goal is a game made by fans, for fans. A game which will be incredibly moddable (modding tools built-into the game for example).

Second, in the "10 years or so" time, the project has seen many additions of personnel, as well as many departures for a number of varied reasons, too personal to get into here. Some may have left simply due to lack of time. Many have families, kids, and jobs that for obvious reasons takes priority over this project.

Lastly, I find you to be an arrogant troll, who seems to have nothing better to do, than to berate a project for doing what you seem to have no interest at all in doing: Trying to build a game of their own. Regardless of if it takes 1 year or 10, 20 years. The wait will be well worth it. A true Trek fan, would have a certain amount of patience and understanding, as well as hold true to the core ideals of IDIC. You sir, do not fit that bill. You... are... a... troll.

Hailing frequencies closed.

Ouch a whole book page worth eh? I know it's not strictly a mod but it rather looks like a mod of bridge commander I know it's own engine but I find it hard to believe we will ever be playing the version they advertised 10 years ago.

Thats also why I dont believe this project is going to survive too many have come and gone, it's never going to get completed I dont know any games made like this actually turn out to be anywhere near the original vision, or even get released.

I think it should have just stuck with the bridge commander mod and then perhaps expanded into it's own game.

It's clearly too big of a project for anyone but a dedicated official game studio to work on.

And you clearly don't got a clue what you're talking about. So could you please, quit trolling this place, and go troll Xsnip3rx's "Bridge Commander 2" "game" instead? Unless you're in fact Xsnip3rx himself, in which case: Just go away!

I suppose by your logic, Bridge Commander 2 will never be finished either, since it's gone through at least a half dozen game engines over the past 4-5 years. And that project is a project of 1 (Xsnip3rx).

I just checked out that bridge commander 2, yes another star trek game that will never happen, he is even accepting donations even though he has been working on it for 5 years and still no playable build.

I think star trek gaming is just prety much dead is there even an official star trek game in the works right now that is being made by a studio that owns the rights not just some fans who want to make a star trek game but cant?

I have no clue about bridge commnader 2 and by the sounds of it no it wont be finished if it's gone through that many changes and still ongoing.

ST game we'be all dreamt -PC gamer. I'm dreaming about really good ST multiplayer game. Perhaps with real people on the bridge, like in Artemis. But... Could you make it MMO, with captains and admirals, fleet system and some kind of responsibility for each player's actions? Yes. I mean some kind of RP.

This wont happen...likely ever. They cant get this game out in a reasonable time I mean..10 years is a long time to expect people to wait for a game that ultimately is just in our imaginations.

Expecting them to do this is very unrealistic and doubt was ever in their plans at some points.

You try developing a game from scratch, on what is essentially your sparetime (jobs, families and other obligations come first), and see if you can complete it within a "reasonable amount of time". Add to that, having developers come and go, recruit new developers etc.

If you aren't patient enough to hold off until the game actually is released, I'd suggest you move onto something else. The devs aren't making this game for your particular enjoyment.

Not likely to be as mind blowing as it looks on paper anyways I expect there to be a lot of issues with this game. These are not super professionals they are just doing it as a pet project but advertising it as a major game when they dont even own the rights.

If the ip owners suddenly decide to scrap this project end of this year because it conflicts with something they have in the works I will just shake my head.

Xsnip3rx, is that you? Sounds very similar to some of his comments, which is kinda ironic given that "he" is working on his own "Star Trek Bridge Commander 2" project, without having any ownership of the rights to Star Trek.

I'll praise the game once they show me the game, if it in fact does end up being a decent game I will say nothing but great stuff but it's been too long as others have said, they have gorwn grey hairs when they didn't have them, kids have matured in this time frame, and so on and so forth if they cant get the game out then why bother continuing it?

If they have so much going on that they cant work on the game then scrap it or put it on hold or let someone else who has the time to work on it, perhaps get the ip owners to work on it with the guarantee that they will stick with the original vision or close to it using the engine they are using now...I'd pay money for that.
