The alpha version of StarMade is completely free!

We absolutely appreciate any and all support via buying the game, making a private investment, etc.. :)

Some of the things that you can currently do in StarMade:

  • Explore: Infinite space in all directions using the X/Y/Z axis you can travel from 0,0,0 to 1000,2000,3000 and so on, but infinitely!!!
  • Design: Design the ship of your dreams, from famous ships featured in movies, book lore and other sci-fi/fantasy cannon. Or design something from your own imagination, connecting modules of ships together and challenging your efficiency and design skills. Do you create a ship that kills and destroys everything or a peaceful trading ship that is really just a smugglers ship in disguise?!
  • Customize: Create customized weapons, harvesting, repair, shield and other modules by grouping them into geometrical patterns to increase their abilities! With more modules being dreamed up by the StarMade team EVERY DAY, the possibilities are endless!
  • Multiplayer: StarMade was designed around multiplayer to begin with. Share control of your super massive ship, design a station with friends or conqueor the universe INCLUDING your pals, one sector at a time!!
  • Multiplatform: This game runs with Java and is OPTIMIZED to run as efficiently as possible, while we may experience some bugs and bumps in alpha and beta, we are more focused on gameplay and engine optimization.

There are many more features and we will do our best to create a better website, with fully imaged tutorials, videos and other goodies ( including contests and giveaways! ).

The best support we can get at this time is the word of mouth, get more people to not only play StarMade but follow us on twitter, indieDB and become involved with our community. Remember, you guys will be the core players that helped us launch this awesome game, and we will remember you.

You can find us on twitter @star_made

Thanks for playing StarMade

New Trailer

It took a long time, but we are finally updating our IndieDB page again.

A lot will come in the next weeks. Here is the trailer:

It showcases the main features of the game and its stability. It was completely filmed on a multiplayer server with around 24 people on at that time :)

Thanks for playing StarMade,

I'm thinking of buying this, but is it worth it? What kind of features are there now, and what are coming?

the alpha version of the game is completely free. So you can just check it out. If you want to support the game, you can already buy the game for 3$.

(you have to download the launcher form , since a new version of the launcher is still waiting for authorization here)

I have just noticed your game, and it looks similar to my old project from 2006:

You can build your spaceship, and its movements are based on a physical model (that is, for example, a jet engine that is not placed centrally will cause both thrust and rotation). You also need to program your ship to navigate it comfortably. And somehow make it resilient, so that it won't be broken if enemies shoot some of your engines down.

Probably much too complicated for most gamers, but I would like a game like this... but never got very far.

Perhaps as a solution to it being difficult to begin ship construction, you could provide the player with various template simple shapes to build off of? Similar to picking a different kind of block, only it will spawn a T shape or an X shape, etc.
Anyways- looks great, keep up the good work!

Admittedly, I figured this would just be another clone of either Scrumble Ship or Blockade Runner... but after playing it I can see that this game has gone in another direction. I enjoyed messing about with the Alpha, awesome work so far!

Hi, thanks for testing the game and the kind words. I'm trying to not look at similar projects and follow my own way. Nevertheless I have great respect for my competition.

I enjoy how this game gets you right into the action, and it seems to have a focus on deathmatch style gameplay. I'm not sure if you plan to add larger scale gameplay, which would be awesome anyway, but either way it's a win for me!

Ive been testing the game and ive found one or two things that need attention:

1) having your avatar just floating in space is kinda creepy. You should consider replacing that white dude with some kind of lifepod or something...

2) The construction system. I know this is an early alpha, but building is the complete ESSENCE of this game, and starting a ship out of scratch can prove to be complicated sometimes, not to mention slow... the camera sometimes annoy me, cannot point where i want to, have to erase parts to reach the core and connect something extra for example...

Some kind of ship editor would be highly appreciated =) i dont know, maybe it could be a service in space stations, so you could buy modules and assemble your ship at the stores with an easy to use interface, rather than having to do it "at hand" floating in space. Still, I wouldnt remove that feature... just nerf it a little so it could be used to fix things on the go until you reach a station.

Thats for now. ill keep pointing things out as i play... i want this to be awesome =)

Keep updating!!

1) Yeah, you're probably right. Several people already mentioned that. I'm going to replace that avatar as soon as I find a fitting solution.

2) The construction system is still not perfect of course. There is already editing available from outside the ship, but I'm going to add some functions to make ship editing easier. There is not going to be s separated ship editor, since I want to keep everything happen inside the same 'dimension'. There are however plans for space space stations and a whole different type of editing ships inside of them.

thanks for the suggestions and your comment!
