The alpha version of StarMade is completely free!

We absolutely appreciate any and all support via buying the game, making a private investment, etc.. :)

Some of the things that you can currently do in StarMade:

  • Explore: Infinite space in all directions using the X/Y/Z axis you can travel from 0,0,0 to 1000,2000,3000 and so on, but infinitely!!!
  • Design: Design the ship of your dreams, from famous ships featured in movies, book lore and other sci-fi/fantasy cannon. Or design something from your own imagination, connecting modules of ships together and challenging your efficiency and design skills. Do you create a ship that kills and destroys everything or a peaceful trading ship that is really just a smugglers ship in disguise?!
  • Customize: Create customized weapons, harvesting, repair, shield and other modules by grouping them into geometrical patterns to increase their abilities! With more modules being dreamed up by the StarMade team EVERY DAY, the possibilities are endless!
  • Multiplayer: StarMade was designed around multiplayer to begin with. Share control of your super massive ship, design a station with friends or conqueor the universe INCLUDING your pals, one sector at a time!!
  • Multiplatform: This game runs with Java and is OPTIMIZED to run as efficiently as possible, while we may experience some bugs and bumps in alpha and beta, we are more focused on gameplay and engine optimization.

There are many more features and we will do our best to create a better website, with fully imaged tutorials, videos and other goodies ( including contests and giveaways! ).

The best support we can get at this time is the word of mouth, get more people to not only play StarMade but follow us on twitter, indieDB and become involved with our community. Remember, you guys will be the core players that helped us launch this awesome game, and we will remember you.

You can find us on twitter @star_made

Thanks for playing StarMade

New Trailer

It took a long time, but we are finally updating our IndieDB page again.

A lot will come in the next weeks. Here is the trailer:

It showcases the main features of the game and its stability. It was completely filmed on a multiplayer server with around 24 people on at that time :)

Thanks for playing StarMade,

One question:

Will there be a system that lets your ship properly land on the planet?
Like, artificial.. or maybe real gravity?

Here is what is wrong with your theory: Use your head for a moment. Space ships travel space at high speeds using thrusters of some kind to propel them. This is in the ZERO gravity of space. Imagine a rock floating through space. One little push, and the rock will float almost infinitely through space. However--if you were to drop said rock into the atmosphere of a planet such as Earth, the gravity would pull it down and a push would do nothing to halt it's fall. Now, replace that rock with a 50-50,000 ton spaceship. Ships do not typically have thrusters of any kind on their undersides. They are likely always constructed in space, and it is in space that they always stay. Let me use Halo for an example. (I hope you are familiar with this) The UNSC ship, "UNSC Infinity" in Halo 4 crashed onto the planet that you play on in the Halo 4 video game. Ships in Halo are built in space (as said in the first novel). With only thrusters in the rear of the ship, there is nothing stopping it from dropping. In the Halo 4 trailer, the UNSC Infinity overloads its thrusters during its crash-landing because it would take approximately 10,000% power to the thrusters to function well in atmospheric gravity compared to that of zero gravity. I use this example because the only large ships that are able to enter gravity in any movie/game I have seen is in Star Wars... which there is no explanation. Besides, in Episode 3(?) Anakin and Obi Wan commandeered that large flagship and were forced to crash land it when they entered the atmosphere of that planet. This all being said, a space dock paired with smaller landing shuttles would be a far greater solution, logically.

Because in Halo, the world is made of blocks, and while erosion physics fail, rocket science still applies. Though is a game about space... never mind.

there is already real gravity on planets. you can also use the landing module to do a less "destructive" landing.

So how is this game distinct from blockade runner and scrumbleships? It certainly looks closer to completion.

Will you be connecting the shop to a planet? It would make more sense since it looks like a orbital lift.

Yeah, there is going to be shops on the planet. The original shop design was pretty much made on the spot, but I still kind of like it ^^
