A group of stalkers, for the first time, reaches the very heart of the Zone-the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant-and triggers a cataclysm on the brink of a catastrophe. An immense blast of anomalous energy transforms the Zone: the once reliable and relatively safe roads are no longer so, the landscape is wiped clean by outbursts of anomalies, and previously unknown areas appear on the Zone map. Stalkers and expeditions perish or end up isolated within the lost territories.

About The Road to Limansk with 9 comments by Predator_828 on Sep 2nd, 2015

Hello and welcome to the first development log of The Road to Limansk. Before we move on with the details of what has been happening I would like to fill everyone in as to what has been happening the past few weeks/months. As TSF mentioned in his comment, his computer was destroyed by lightning which to say the least left us with a few lemons in the desert as many months of progress was lost. Fortunately some of the data could be saved which means TSF will be able to rebuild the mod back to the level it was on if not better. If you are wondering what the impact of this will be on the release date, the answer is pretty much there, it is a major setback. While TSF continues to rebuild the components of the mod that were lost, I will be working on all the arbitrary new content we intend to add. Such as sounds, graphical improvements, items, trivia, UI, NPC skins. At the end of the day with both of us working consistently, we will be able to catch up fairly fast.

The interface Design

Since I have joined the limansk team, my first task has been to work with the UI and come up with a new style that incorporates a bit of inspiration from all the stalker games. I started with the easiest of all the UI jobs, the main menu. I started by incorporating relevant static artwork with a few animated graphics supplied by GSC gameworld. A few effects, colour modifications and lighting adjustments later I was quite happy with the results.

Road to Limansk mainmenu artwork

Limansk Loadgame & Config Menu Limansk Loadgame & Config Menu

At the very least it gets the job done and looks decent. I would like to add that the artworks used were drawn / painted by Alexander Rudenko. A talented and creative artist whom I believe is Russian, if you are reading this drop me message - it would be awesome to talk with you about your work.

Once the menu was done I moved on to the more finite elements of the interface, the ingame UI - Starting with the inventory. While CS does have its problems, by large the vanilla CS interface is pretty good. It was really just a case of cleaning it up a bit and adding our own touch to it. I tried to keep a majority of the cold colour tone, but reduced the monotonous pallete by throwing in some rusty borders and other grayish/black metals. The result came out quite nicely and the inventory features a few traits from the other stalker games.

Limansk Inventory

Some things to note about this inventory:

  • 10 Belt Slots
  • Functional Slots for all weapons and first person items
  • Character model display like in ShoC
  • Vanilla CS Radiation / Vitality indicators
  • Notifications for possible features such as hunger and thirst will be independent of the inventory most likely.

In any case, please drop me a comment on what you thought of this post. Would you like more regular updates. Is the content interesting, is there enough content. Let me know what you think so that the next one may be better.

Thanks for reading - Predator_828

I have all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games apart from clear sky, just because people say it is buggy as hell and unfairly hard.

Should I bother with it?

Clear Sky is not hard, and if you patch it to the latest, it's not that buggy. (all Stalker games are a bit buggy, it's the Xray engine.)
I've also found that not only increasing your RAM helps, but also increasing your video RAM helps BIG TIME! I was running on an Nvidia card with 1/2Gig VRAM, replaced with card that has 1 Gig VRAM and that stopped most of my previous crashes.

Stalker CS is fine on Nividia cards with the lastest patch. The game is stable and fun to play for me. If you have a ATI card you may need this fix ATI shader bug fix - MacroN it is included in a unofficial patch Stalker.filefront.com

Definitely yes. Also definitely patch it to the latest version.
I played the game shortly after release, and the first patch and it was completely bug free (but very hard in a couple of spots) and loved it.
Originally, the npcs were impossibly accurate with grenades, i'm talking throwing a grenade the length of two football fields, and it lands at your feet. But i believe the latest patc hmay fix that. If it doesn't, i would suggest clear sky complete, as that mod definitely fixes it.
Out of all the stalkers, this one has some incredibly beautiful landscapes and scenery .. and it is also one of the hardest on hardware.
Make sure you have a good pc if you want to run all the eye candy at full maxxed out.

Buggy if you don't bother to use patch 10. Unfairly hard when compared to Call of Pripyat (Stalker with training wheels) while in the first level, but it eases off after that. Probably about as challenging as SoC is, combat wise.
People just judge it based on its original release, which wasn't very good, and don't bother to look at it now, in its fixed form. I've played fully patched and unpatched, and fully patched is much more enjoyable.
Grab a copy to add to your collection, you might or might not enjoy it - you won't know till you play it.

not sure if this is the right place to be asking, but I recently wanted to play Clear Sky, Ive only ever playeed SoC and wanted to see if Clear Sky was just as good. Problem is, theres nowhere near me that sells it and I dont want to order offline because htat would take forever. I dont want to get it off of Steam either because that means that mods wont be compatible. So my only option left is to torrent it and all that, I dont know much about torrenting, I managed to instal the game with Daemon Tools but I cant play because I dont have the CD. I know that there is a kind of file used to trick my disk drive into thinking that the CD is in there. Im pretty sure it an MDS file I need. The only problem is, I cant find one anywhere. Do any of you think you could link me to one? I ONLY want the mds file not a torrent of the game with the mds, because for some reason the torrent i used didnt come with one and I dont want to sit through another painfully long download.

what you need to look for is called: clear sky nodvd
it replaces xrcpu, xrpipe and xrengine so that the game runs without a disk check. always check anything you download for virus' kiddies.
I can't believe people don't know this ...

I don't know why people think that games sold on steam will not be compatible with mods. The version of the games you are getting through steam are exactly the same as retail except for the executable to start them. Which is only slightly changed and mods do not require this file to be the same regardless.

I suspect people who are inexperienced with torrents comes to websites like this for assistance, but at the same time want to avoid the awkwardness of having essentially stolen a game. If you notice, anytime someone posts a comment asking how to install a torrent on a non-torrent related site, they always have an explanation of why they got it from a torrent client and not a legit source.
