Sonic Robo Blast 2 is a free 3D Sonic the Hedgehog fan-game built on a heavily modified fork of the Doom Legacy source port of Doom. It is closely inspired by the original Sonic games from the Sega Genesis, and attempts to recreate their classic design in 3D with robust multiplayer and mod support.

  • Old-school Genesis-era platforming complete with rings, springs, baddies, reversible gravity and more!
  • Fast-paced multiplayer action with support for up to 32 players online or 2 player splitscreen across multiple game modes.
  • 3 playable characters - Sonic (Speed), Tails (Flight), and Knuckles (Power) - traversing unique stage paths and carefully balanced for online match play.
  • Deep exploration spanning a variety of locations, from green meadows to deep underwater ruins, mines, mountains, and space stations - or perhaps more...
  • Original soundtrack produced by some of the most renowned Sonic music artists on the internet.
  • Loads of unlocks to keep you busy far past completing the single-player campaign, including hidden levels, game modes, and cheats!
  • Extensive configuration support for modern Keyboard + Mouse controls, or more relaxed gamepad controls, with individual sensitivity sliders.
  • Tons of user-created content - custom characters, levels, mods, and all sorts of other good stuff to extend gameplay well beyond the initial package.
  • Well-supported level design tools (such as Zone Builder) that allow easy creation of your own custom stages. (See SRB2 Wiki: Level Design for more info.)
  • Flexible mod support via Lua scripting or Sonic Object Configuation system - allowing new items, enemies, bosses, scenery effects and (much) more.
  • Full source code for the game available on GitLab and GitHub.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 v2.2.1 has been released! Grab it now from ModDB Downloads or srb2.org!

From Rob at srb2.org:

Hey all!

We’re releasing an update to 2.2. 2.2.1 is here! Since so many things were changed, we decided it was correct to release this as a full install package, so you’ll need to redownload this. You should be able to install this into your SRB2 folder where 2.2 lives with no problems. Your save files from 2.2.0 will still be valid.

Version 2.2.4

Sonic Robo Blast 2 v2.2.4 Full

We’ve been meaning to get it out for a while, but one thing or another always caused a snag in the plans. There are a couple major changes we think people will be happy with (Objects now have shadows, and Fickle’s camera mod have been implemented, for example), but it’s mostly bugfixing. Also, we did neglect to add a name to the credits, so by way of apology, I specifically want to specifically acknowledge QueenDelta in this newspost for having made Dream Hill, a map that she made for 2.1, and was awesome enough for us to include in 2.2. She also made the new chip, enemy, and star assets for that map. [...]

Changelog Highlights:
(Detailed changelog here)

  • Shadows have been added to the game.
  • A slew of camera options originally known as the “ficklecam” mod (Made by fickle) from the forums has now been added to the game.
  • Added the “Simple” play style, which automatically orientates the camera. It may prove easier for players using controllers.
  • OpenGL batch files are included in this package.
  • GIFs may be recorded under OpenGL.
  • The renderer may now be changed while in game.
  • Players now only uncurl from a ball after hitting the ground when using the Elemental Shield’s ability. This means you can break those monitors under the goop in THZ2!
  • Added sixteen angle sprite support.
  • Fixed the Fire Shield being extinguished by lava.
  • Adjusted Tails’ flight to discourage mashing the jump button.
  • Players no longer slide off polyobjects.

Enjoy!

first of all i just want to say this game is amazing, thank you so much
for crafting such an amazing piece of software. however i do have a couple recommendations, first on the list is please tweak some of the gravity and physics sonic is a little slidy for me. secondly is could you adjust the size of the items like springs and ring boxes they're hard to pin point. and lastly could you add a homing attack feature i often find myself drifting around enemies. but aside from these this is probably the best fan made indie game ive ever played id rate it 9/10

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates and comments. I've gone through and cleaned up the profile - OS listings should be accurate (see Mb.srb2.org), among other things.

Will at some point get recent material posted over here (see Srb2.org in the meantime for some 2.1 tidbits). Remember, SRB2 is free and all parties involved donate their free time towards further development, so patience is appreciated. ;)

Thanks!
