Hello everyone!

If you have been following us on social media, you would see that we finally released Squidditch! Whoo hoo! This was the first time the team has published an official game so this is a new endeavour for us! This blog post we are going to look back from where we started and what we eventually ended up with.

wwwwwaaaaazzzz

The Good

Probably the best thing we could have done was start of with a high score chaser, We solidified on a mobile game idea and after researching through some of the simple free to play games, that are very popular, i noticed that these games are endless, high score chasers. This is very much doable in a 2-3 month time frame. Easily polishable and very open to more features (Which if you haven't noticed, we added daily rewards!). TL;DR, we scoped very well, let us polish and add more features easily.

The Bad

Unfortunately, our 2D Artist was extremely busy and was unable to make any more assets for us. So when it came to us changing the boosters dropping from the squid, we needed some visual indicator. Unfortunately, she could not help us to get all visually indicating assets such as magnet booster being a magnet, instead we improvised and got her to make a basic tuna roll, while having a glow effect sprite we can just change in unity. Using this we were able to colour code. This made issues where some people do not know what each booster does

We also should have advertised our game WAY more than we did. What we should have done is shown the game more publicly on Reddit and similar websites. If we did that i think we could have had quite a successful game. At the moment we have around 25 total downloads and although this may be ok for our first game, we can definitely do a lot better

And the Finished Product

In the end, we are very pleased with out the outcome of the game and we have learnt a lot about the mobile market and what to expect from the future. In the future we will take more time out of the game to market the product a lot more than we did. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to message us on Facebook or comment below!
