Spring is an opensource RTS game and engine, based around Total Annihilation. Spring is in fact capable of directly loading all Total Annihilation models, however maps are incompatible do to Total Annihilation's isometric view. Spring is currently multiplayer only, and has integrated an lobby chat / game lobby. The Spring graphics engine is capable of realtime damage to terrain, and allows full 3d rotation of the camera.
Several mods are available for Spring in addition to its Total Annihilation based core.

As of this year (2007), this game is filled with crazy elitists and flamming. Expect to be flammed and to flamme ppl at will and at random, plus, insult and be insulted.

wow. I guess I can say that in you, nothing of value was lost.
one more warning:
This game demands a extremely fast cpu and gigs of RAM. The elite players often build thousands of units in just a matter of minutes, and play with very wide range zoomed out view. If you own a slow system which lags with many players and / or thousands of units moving in game, don't look for settings, there is absolutely nothing you can do.
This game isn't really heavy in graphics, but it really is in CPU and RAM usage.
The spring community is more mature than any online game ive ever played. Most online games are full of 13 year olds screaming racial epithets at eachother and questioning one anothers sexuality. Spring is nothing like that. One bad experience does not a community make.
I play spring on my 1.8GHz laptop, ive never had CPU load issues to the point that the game became unplayable. If you are getting thousands of units in a matter of minutes you are probably playing the wrong sorts of maps- metal maps have far too many resources and that in turn leads to far too many units. These sorts of maps are not how Spring is meant to be played, so yeah, sure, Spring DOES break when you TRY to break it.
Thanks for the love and support Gnostic. It's designed to use TA datafiles, what were you expecting? Besides, Spring is more of an engine than a game. There are several high quality non-TA mods (Gundam, Nanoblobs, Kernal Panic and EE are the ones off the top of my head that have been released) that would far better represent the capability of the Spring engine.

I played this and it was total shit. The unwraps sjut got jacked by them from TA. TA > SPRING X10000000 times. Fucking shit.
