Spacebit 0.7.5 Stable Desura Release

Long time no see! Its been a while since we uploaded a news post based on the latest release on Desura so its about time we get up to date and release one :) We found an artist to create the enviroment, ground, characters etc... so soon you will see spacebit in top-notch visual goodness!

We are also available on Indievania for $5.99 as a special 40% off which includes the Spacebit Updater for constant earlier updates.

Spacebit has also been uploaded to Steam GreenLight. Check it out over here:
Any support and friendly comments you could give us over there would really be awesome and much welcomed! We really also reccomend to check out the many other games on there if you haven't already, almost every single one of them deserves your support in my opinion!

The Spacebit website has been completely reworked, including a new forum which can be found at

Visuals!! our main focus at the moment is improving graphical quality, completing the new environment art, improving particle quality, effects etc.

Tips and Hints

Playing this stable version is very different from the current version on Desura. That's why we have the Tips and Hints section to help you with some of the things that changed in the game you would not have known prior to this massive update!

  • All attacks have a knockback now
  • To open inventory, character sheet or creation menu, press ESC and click on one of the 3 buttons at the bottom left
  • Spaceship creation has been disabled while we are changing core of the map loading system
  • You have a map editor with which you can create your own maps
  • Top level has been changed to 5
  • You lose items if you die
  • To save character press ESC and click save character

Team and Development News

We have found a new 2D artist and will have more news of him during this week. Bert, our music composer has been working hard on new media for the background and main menu. Bram has been working hard on the menu art as well as the trailer/intro. Jeno has been busy working hard on the item icons, check the new art out in the compilation image!

And i've also been working on a side project we called Arena. Check it out over here: Ben has been programming multiplayer and is right now focusing on liquids once again. He is concentrating all his awesome brain power on improving quality of everything like liquid and improving performance to allow for more unique and interesting liquid related things.

To be honest, while I understand the game is in alpha still, the description DOES give the idea away the game is fully playable, in some respects. And you have the game listed as released. :P

But it is released and very playable :) It is already good fun to play, even in it's current not-yet finished state =)

I have a problem. I bought it at Indievania and downloaded that updater and then ran it. It updated to 0.89 (window title at the beginning still showing 0.84 I think but the background image of the main menu showing 0.89). At your website I read there was already 0.9 or 0.94. Also I had a bug. Posted at that forums at your website.

Hey lordmd i replied to your post on the forum its a issue with the music volume or sound effects volume i'll also post how to fix this here go to Content/Files/Game/settings.txt

When you open settings.txt you get something like

Window Mode
800 x 600

Under English change both 0.9642857 values to 1 let me know if this solved your issue.

I need to update the Spacebit Updater to 0.9 only Desura is currently 0.9, let me know if this fix's your problem also.

lordmd Dec 8 2012 replied:

Okay thank you. That fixed the problem. Had some other values with like 0.2 instead of 0.9 but from the layout of the file and what you posted above it seems that were the correct ones. Set them to 1 and no error message before intro and after intro correctly loading the main menu screen.

Uh, I don't know if I'm just missing something, but is the game currently just a tech demo? The screenshots, video, and patches seem to indicate that the game is playable, but I seem to be stuck with a single map and build that has none of that. I completely understand that this is in alpha, and I don't mind the purchase since I love to support indie developers whenever I can, but it kinda feels disappointing.

There should be multiple maps, as there is a way to make your own! Also check the spacebit forums at where you can find a map made by a fan! Please, if you make any, be sure to share :) !

Lorias Oct 28 2012 replied:

Mine came with one map, that isn't playable in the slightest. I'd also just like to make a mention that you are selling the game (alpha or not) with the impression that there is a playable map right "out of the box"(indievania also says randomly generated too I might add). Telling your consumer that they have to be the level designer after the fact seems like a pretty poor design decision to me, and I really hope that isn't what the final product is going to be like.

The game has changed allot there is world generation it was disabled since im improving it (but its alpha so that happens as its in development still), what you see in the screenshots is the current build, the maps im playing is indeed maps you can play if you go to the forum and download them from fans since they are fan maps. the map that the current version has is specifically a quick map since i removed the other maps because of changes made to the code, this is alpha and is playable. you also are given a map editor which i encourage you to use.

Lorias Oct 29 2012 replied:

I didn't mean to impose on you to rush out an update with the maps or anything. Like I made a mention to, I had no regrets buying the game and supporting your efforts in making such a unique game in a genre flooded with zombie survival games. I just wanted to confirm, and make sure that I wasn't just being stupid and missing something. I admit my second post was far too harsh, and I apologize.

I was, and still am, more than willing to wait out all of your work until the game has that generation. I'm a programmer myself, so I can understand the fine quirks of all that you do. With that said, it also means I absolutely hate level designing, so I didn't want to use the level designer. That's just my own little thing though.

Maybe I shouldn't like this game so much. I give it 10 for potential and the daily updates if you bought from the dev's site (via the handy updater program). It just feels so good to play even though I'm not very good at surviving. One suggestion to devs is that objects be added to existing slots - for example, if I have dirt moved down to my quick slots, then any new dirt I dig up should be added to the existing dirt in the quick slot until it is full before going in a new inventory slot. Otherwise…
