The current story and progression is a placeholder.
This is not even Alpha yet.

Is there any way to talk with NPCs?
AFAIK you can only talk to certain NPCs such as the upgrade man
Nice, I've tried for some time and I have robbed many spaceships already :D
Though there are couple things I don't like:
1. Can't use escape button to exit to main menu or exit the game
2. Player can die instantly while lockpicking a safe
3. Item containers are too varied forcing player to touch anything to see if they are containers or not
4. Ship repair costs a ton of money
Anyways, I like the exploration part and I'm anxious to explore. Oh that includes progressing the story
