SONAR second demo
Oct 5, 2011 Demo 6 commentsThe second demo of SONAR, containing 2 Levels and nearly every single gameplay element.
"SONAR" is an exploring-/horror-game with a minimum of graphics and a focus on sound-design instead. Though Catherine can't see anything, the player has to use the Sonar-O-Matic 3000, a futuristic sonar device with which she can scan her surroundings. Stuck in the dark, with no hope for rescue, Catherine has to encounter that she is not alone down here...
The game is entirely written in C# with XNA 3.0, using original graphics and music. Most of the soundeffects were found at www.freesound.org.

I really had fun programming on the Unity powered version of SONAR. I learned something about Unity, improved my coding skills and learned what a mess the code of SONAR really is ;) But to be honest, since the last post here on indiedb I never touched it again. The first reason was that I had to implement a workaround for the loading and saving of the levels which was easy in XNA but came out to be difficult using Unity. So I started to procrastinate...
But that's not the whole story. As I indicated earlier I have a fulltime job now which is really time consuming and lets little room to follow my hobbies. The job is great, though! I'm working at one of europe's most influencial animation studios and write concepts and treatments for children series now which is a lot of fun. Also, me and some others were building up this companies' game department (sounds big, but it's still indie, trust me). Those others are the guys from Golden Tricycle. Together with them I finally could do my hobby a profession and now work on a game for real money - not the few bucks, SONAR made - seriously: thanks for everybody who contributed and gave feedback!!
So, SONAR is (quite) dead right now, but the other project CLARK, Matthias, Felix, Maria, Hernan, Marco, Jonathan and Ella (and some other guys) are working on is hot and alive as hell! Maybe you stumbled over it while surfing on indiedb, for those who don't, here is a nice ingame video of that thing:
I am responsible for the whole narration and some additional programming. It's a nice team, a nice location and we have a lot of fun.
P.S.: I am putting together a selfmade 2D engine in Monogame in my freetime. There is some code of SONAR in there. So SONAR's DNA is still around. It heart still pumps... maybe it gets a second chance...

Song played when oxygen level reaches critical minimum (no more than 3 minutes left).
I like it! This looks pretty awesome. If you can successfully create an atmosphere with those minimal graphics then that will be a huge accomplishment.
Thanks! It's great to get feedback. Regarding the atmosphere: I hope so :)
