Valchion is a action RPG with retro graphics and simple mechanics. It features bright, GameBoy Color-styled visuals, and a (hopefully) memorable soundtrack. It should be released for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It's also being made with the Blender Game Engine, which features fast game creation and no time spent exporting to an external engine.

Post news Report RSS Development Log Video # 5

So, here's another development log video showing the progress that I'm making on Soldier Of.

Posted by on

Hey. So, it's been a little while since the last development log video, but I've implemented a lot since then - joystick support, a couple of maps, simple AI, better equipment handling, a GUI system, and better lighting. While I may not have made much actual progress in terms of percentage of game objects / weapons / items finished, it's much more close to being done.

All of those updates mentioned above, minus the joystick support, since you can't see that, can be seen in the latest devlog update here:

Really nice update!

The game seems really fluid so far. Really like the effect on the sewers, but perhaps less lights in there? :P

Looking forward for the next update :)

Cheers,

Yeah, I placed those lights kind of haphazardly. I'll fix 'em up to be more logically spaced out later.

Btw, i think i know what you meant on the video for those lights, are they rendered in real time? If you, and since it's lights, perhaps you can place objects/models (static or animated) to cast shadows, right?

Just asking and perhaps giving an idea.

Keep it up ;)

They are rendered in real-time. I could cast shadows... It'd take a little coding for dynamic objects, but it might be worth it. I did a simple shadow for the improved light in the sewers, which you can find in the new image that I've posted.

That's really what i was talking about, good good, hope you're able to put dynamic objects, not only for the shadows but for alot of gameplay too ^^
