I managed to take Mars, finally. However, I've already been assigned both Jupiter and Saturn, and since I'm severely behind, and receiving penalties. Any suggestions for the future, or ways to slow down, or prevent, that unfortunately unrealistic timeframe of taking Mars / Jupiter / Saturn, so quickly?

Love the game otherwise. It's definitely a challenge to this point.

Getting through this without taking a penalty entirely is supposed to be difficult. On the other hand, one or two months with a penalty is hardly game breaking by itself (unless you have a bunch of other problems at the same time) and just represents people pushing you forward a bit.

There should be a significant buffer between the first penalty notice and getting dragged into losing the game by it.

But you have to stay on the offensive in that early stage. The point of the mission timing is to prevent the player from just sitting back and building up his defenses to an invincible level while the AI is still receiving an early game penalty.
