This week the very beginnings of the PvP system made their way into the game!

So this week I finally got round to adding some actual combat into the game! I'm pretty pleased with how its going, and I think I've got a few interesting features in the combat system that will make it fun to play around with.

Main additions:

  • Attacks/abilities gui bar at the bottom of the screen: There is now a fairly standard bar displaying your currently available abilities at the bottom of the screen. You can mouse-over the icons to find out the name of the abilities, and activate the abilities by pressing the relevant key.
  • Available attacks depend on what weapon is equipped: This allows more powerful weapons to do more powerful and unique attacks! When no weapon is equipped the abilities bar is not shown. When you equip a weapon the abilities bar shows up and displays all the attacks that are possible with that weapon.
  • Instant and charged attacks: A lot of attacks are instant, so when you activate the attack it is instantly carried out to completion, dealing damage to the enemy pretty much instantly. However, some other attacks must be charged first (shown by a lighting icon next to the attack icon). To charge an attack you press the appropriate key once and wait for it to charge up. Once charged the key can be pressed again to attack!
  • Attack animations: So I also had a go at doing some animating this week, which is definitely not a strong point of mine! The attack animations look pretty abysmal at the moment, but they are only placeholders until I get an animator to help me out!
  • Weapon stats: I added stats to weapons a little while back, but now they actually mean something! Using better weapons made from better materials will allow more damage to be dealt.

So now you can check out this week's dev log to see all of these additions in action! Enjoy :)
