Slender: The Eight Pages, formerly known as Slender is a free experimental game developed by Parsec Productions. It was released as a beta in June 2012 for Windows and Mac OS X.
Now, I see all you people going all "WTF DIS AIN'T SCARY" to this game. But you all will HAVE to admit you got scared in the first try. This game is a "scared-for-once" type of game. But it's perfect for beginners.
I'll make something clear, I never played horror games because I thought they were just really cheap screamers packed into a software. But I did hear of the Slender Man myth. Seeing a game like that gained my curiosity. I tried it out.
I felt like something was terribly wrong as the game just started. The interface was too basic for me to suspect. I was totally confused, talking to myself as I was not sure of what to do.
I looked out and saw a basic forest equipped with a flashlight with the words "Collect the eight pages". I was confused because why 8 pages? I was also suspecting myself to be inside because that's what horror games "WERE" like. It was flooded with complete silence with nothing but crickets chirping. I looked how slowly my player walks across the pathway.
I walked forward the whole time and looked to a silo, thinking what in the name of **** is that? (I wasn't that bright) I went around the silo worried on how does a page look like? But then I saw a page stuck to the Silo. I clicked on it.
The word creeped me out as danger was close to me, I could feel the thumping making me shiver. It felt like as if someone was walking towards me. Goosebumps everywhere. I ignored everything and accidentally held shift and realized I can sprint. Running in fear I tried to look behind to see if anything was after me.
I was full of regret.
Behind me was a tall man in a suit, motionless, staring at me and filling the screen with static. I jumped in utter fear and couldn't react to his stare and saw as that terrifying close-up made my heart almost stop.
But that wasn't it, no matter how scared I was, I kept trying, and I saw more Slender videos and found more games. I got more interested in horror, and now i'm here.
I remember the first time I played this game in an older version when It was only called Slender :P I rated this 8 out of 5 things I focus on mostly when I review a game, it is Quality, Scares, Length, Lag and Story (atmosphere and stuff like that is included in the Quality!)
Quality: Pretty good atmosphere if I must say so myself, there is no voice-acting though :P But since it has no voice-acting Im not dragging it down :P Atmosphere is creepy and when the sound of Slenderman being close scared the f*ck outta me almost everytime, a very good atmospheric horror game! Scares: I ruined it in the Quality, when Slenderman arrives, BIG 8 for the scares :D Length: Well xD Decisions, decisions... It variates so I dunno it's probably at a BIG 7 since it's really hard to finish it :P (And Im such a noob I never finished it because it was to hard :P) Lag: There is no lag so not much to say, a clean 10 :) Story: There's so many different stories behind the Slenderman mytho that I dont even know where to start but Slender Sanatorium and Slender is linked to eachother if you didn't know :P Since your a little girl in Slender and in Sanatorium there is a page saying "took my girl, now coming for me" written in blood and your controlling the father :P I'd have to give it an 8 :)
Quality: 9 - Scares: 8 - Length: 7 - Lag: 10 - Story: 8 So here it is, of course the game could have been better, but hey, it's Slender, it's supposed to be like this :P
This game was pretty scary. I only really had jump scares, like when your player sees Slender Man for the first time. I do like the game for the simplicity of making it scary. No ******** long hallway (other than the 1 hallways in the bathrooms), or anything predicable. There is a bit in a lack of quality (misaligned textures, few glitched wall textures, repeated tree models) but for a free price tag, only new-**** really complain.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a few jumps, a scare or two.
I also hope the sequel is improved.
