Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. Shallow Space focuses on organised mass RTS space combat in a fully 3D environment. Ships in Shallow Space are nearly always grouped into Flotillas and Wings, and orders issued to these structures cascade to the subordinate members. Rather than stressing out clicking on the units or dragging selection boxes during the heat of battle, standing orders are issued in advance leaving you to zoom around, activating abilities and arranging support and reinforcements. Should the tide turn in battle traditional control is still available.

Another thing Brian showed you was how to fire a salvo of missiles using the 'Fire Single Salvo' button but you are also able to select the ship [correction: Flotilla or Wing] and select 'Auto Fire Salvo' and the selected ships will fire when they are able. I break the wing away from the Flotilla to keep them out of the way but within weapons range.

Hello and welcome to the advanced Shallow Space tutorial, my name is James and I am the creator of Shallow Space.

One of the things that Brian showed us in the first tutorial is how to move the ships using the RMB. You can still use the WASD and QE keys move the camera while in this mode and hold the MMB to look around. To select multiple movement waypoints you can hold the CTRL key and click LMB setting the elevation as required. When done, simply release the CTRL key and a final LMB will set the order. While in movement move you can also select the RMB to cancel the existing order.

Brian mentioned that you can move the Flotilla by selecting the lead ships or the Flotilla icon. If I select the lead ship and move him forwards [the rest of the ship will follow] but I can then select the other wings either by directly clicking on them or selecting the relevant icon in the sidebar and I can instruct the wings to do something completely different. This is helpful for breaking away ships specialising in 'Indirect Fire' which are not effective at close range. To get the wings to join back to the Flotilla, either click the 'Follow Flotilla Leader' icon in 'Contextual' or you can click on the Flotilla icon to bring all wings back into formation.

Note that I'm going to click on the lead Flotilla ship not the icon as it will bring all of the Flotilla back into formation. I just want the leader and other Battleship wing to engage the enemy so I select the lead ship and the other ship (and it's wing) will follow.

OK so now I could use the RMB to get the Flotilla to engage the enemy, but instead I will break the Flotilla up further by using the 'Action Icon' (see README) clicking on the action icon allows me to set that wing to choose and engage it's own target.

Thankyou for watching the Shallow Space advanced tutorial, I hope it was informative if you have any questions look to the forums, myself and Brian - maybe some of the other team members will be around to answer your questing. We hope you enjoy playing the Shallow Space demo!
