Voxel level shadows are totally becoming a thing.

They're not entirely working yet, but it's remarkably close. These are a few shapes that happen to work particularly well with what I've got so far.

The funky shaped shadows are awesome but what really blows my mind is being able to see the large shadow at the bottom. Does this mean that when I put lights on the insides of my ship the outside will no longer light up like a Christmas tree? Also curious as to how it's working with transparent materials so far. Most of all it's nice to see you back from your break/home improvement project! -Ryulord

Yup! Currently the system has a little leakage around joints, and is pretty inefficient, but I've got plans to fix both of those problems. Once I do, lights should mostly only light areas of the ship that they could in real life. This image (And tomorrow's image) are mainly just showing off how flexible the system is.

Based on your comment, I added support for transparencies. When light shines through transparent materials, it develops a shadow. The less transparent something is, the darker it gets. The more layers it has, the darker it gets.

Cheers,
-Dirk

This is so cool! Shadows are going to change the game's whole aesthetic in an awesome way. It'll look much more spacey, I think.

Wow! I was not expecting shadows to enter into scrumbleship to this degree. Keep up the good work Dirkson!
