About the game

Sarcoex is Haunted is a free roaming physiological horror game in development by a small indie game development group, called Sarcoex Games. In Sarcoex is Haunted, you play as a character named Sarcoex Bloodrun. He suffers from anxiety and paranoia. In periods with high stress and high anxiety; he suffers with horrific hallucinations. Experience the horrors he suffers! Find out what horrors lurks within the mountains and his mind. Are the horrors real or just hallucinations?

About Sarcoex Bloodrun

My name is Sarcoex Bloodrun I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and suffers in periods with high anxiety. When I am stressed I can see and hear things which aren't normally there, it all seems real to me, but others around hasn't seen the horrors I have seen. I just want these “monsters” to go away. My therapist have suggested I take some time for myself, take walks in the mountains or just go on a vacation. I have decided to visit my fathers old work place, it is an abandoned research center in the mountains, I can't remember to name of the mountains, but I have visited the place many times. I know how to get there. I will go there at night, as no people is around at that time, and I can then just focus on relaxing.

Some say it's cursed, some say it's haunted.. I don't know..

The Mountains

The Mountains was Sarcoex's uncle's, Dr. Bloodrun, old workplace. Twenty years ago, his uncle mysteriously disappeared, Sarcoex was only five years old at the time. After Dr. Bloodrun's disappearance, the workplace was put under quarantine for ten years. After the quarantine was lifted, the old workplace was made open to the public. The Mountains was used a military biological research facility. The facility was known to the public, and rumors were spread that horrifying experiments were conducted. No one knows exactly what types of experiments, but some claims the scientists were trying to find an alternate food source. As of this day, no animals has been seen in the mountains. It flourished with animal life before the facility was established.

Hallucinations; real, surreal or just unreal?

Some claim that hallucinations is only a result of different universes connected by a wormhole, and that some particles go from a universe to a connected universe, and that these particles from an other universe, can form creatures that can interact with the different chemicals and electricity in the brain of some humans and animals. Those with such a brain, can see and interact with these creatures, and may get a better understanding of the universes and the multiverses. If those with such knowledge, unknown and surreal knowledge, try to claim that they got the knowledge by studying a creature that no one else can see; they are considered mentally ill. Some hear voices, some see things. Are they just something from another universe? Or even from another multiverse? Or are they just hallucinations and unreal?

You can buy early access to the game here: Desura.com, at a discounted price while the game is in alpha or beta. The full version will be a bit more expensive (not much :) ). Explore

Explore the mountains to discover what horrors and mysteries lurks within. Explore, solve puzzles, freak out and have fun.

Solve

The gameplay is puzzle, exploration and investigation based. The goal of the gameplay is to make the player think, instead of act;  "What WAS that?", "That's creepy.", "Hope it's not following me or watching me." The player will be dragged in and be interested and freaked out.

Discover

You have limited battery on your flashlight, you need to use the flashlight to be able to solve some of the puzzles. Batteries are found by exploring and solving puzzles. You can solve the puzzles in what order that you find most suitable. If you fail a puzzle, you can't restart it, the story simply adapts to your failure, or success, if you manage to solve a puzzle. Like the first puzzle at the start of Bard's Tale (in the small prison),  PS2 and Android version.

Breath

If you have a microphone, the game can monitor it, and find out if you breath heavily, screams, panicks or if you are just calm (based on pitch and volume).

Play

Dynamic random events; on a playthrough you can trigger certain events and on other playthroughs those events may not be triggered at all. A different experience almost every time you play.

Linux

Beginning in May Linux development of Sarcoex is Haunted starts.

About the developers:

Sarcoex is Haunted is developed by a small indie group called Sarcoex Games, this group has 2 members; The Project Manager Anderwin and the Lead Developer André "Sarcoex" Nilsen. Anderwin's job is to tell André what he need to focus on, when the deadline is and what he should do next, Anderwin is also handling almost all people interactions, as André struggle with communication with strangers, due to his shyness and social anxiety disorder. Questions about the game is answered by André though. André's job is to develop the game, post news and progress about the game on IndieDB/Desura. His job is also to review feedback and suggestions, and answer those.
We both have some common tasks though; monitor the comments on IndieDB/Desura. We have a policy; To keep all comments, regardless if they are negative or positive about the game. Only spam is deleted. Even comments written in a different language are kept, they go through a quick google translate, if we do not know that language.

NOTE: DEVELOPMENT MAY BE SLOW AT TIMES, DUE TO ANDRÉ'S STRUGGLES WITH DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY

The development has been put on hold, due to my struggles with real life issues. The development has been a heavy burden for some time now, it has literally been killing me. I can’t focus, I have no motivation. And I have gotten really depressed because of little progress. All that has been on my mind is the game, I have thought about it 24/7, been trying to come up with ideas. I have put a lot of time and effort into the game, and I don’t want to stall the development. But it is something that I MUST do, for the sake of my mental health. I don’t know how long the development is going to be stalled, hopefully not indefinitely. They who have bought the game through Alphafunding on Desura, can ask the Desura staff for a refund, if possible. The alpha branch will be renamed to “Donate”, and when the development starts again, the game will be free for all to test, all the way from Alpha to Final release.

Hi- enjoying the game so far-it's really coming together, so keep tweaking it, and it will be awesome! I have a couple of questions about the game: most important being that there seems to be no way to exit the game unless you leave it in windowed view, or to save? When I press "escape" button nothing happens (unless I have my inventory open, then it closes it). Also-can I open any of the doors? I am not sure what the "action" button is-I have stood in front of doors and pressed every button! I am enjoying the game so far, just not sure exactly what I am doing, and how to run, open doors (if you can) save progress, oh, and turn my flashlight on! Let me know if any of these things are working yet, and if so what button to press :) Thanks!

If I buy the alpha version, do I get the free update/download to the beta version, and also the final release? I understand purchasing the alpha version, helps the developers to fund the game, which I love the idea of supporting. However, if I have to purchase the game again, after it is completed, I would rather wait. The game looks great and I am excited to play. I added it to my cart and am just awaiting a response from a fellow member or Andre "Sarcoex" Nilsen aka the developer :) Thanks!

Yes, all versions are included when you buy the alpha version. If you have bought the alpha, you will get access to the beta version when it's released, and the final release when that is released. In short term; buying the alpha (early access); you'll get the full version and access to test the game from alpha->beta->release. :)

It's part of the hallucination the main character has. All part of the experience, it is always looking at you, and that can creep the most of people out; when you know something is watching, but you don't know what it is, or how it got there. :)

Is there a goal in the game that can be achieved ? Is Linux Mint also applicable for BETA testing of your game ? I am still not sure weather to apply for β-testing or not.

All Linux distributions are applicable for beta testing, as long as they are supported by Unity3D, since Mint is based of Ubuntu, I would guess it will run well.
The goal is to explore the mountains, discover clues on what has happened there, experience the psychotic moments (random) your character have, solve puzzles, get rewards (batteries and clues, and more). Freak out.

An immersive atmosphere, which sends shivers down my spine, I've quite enjoyed my brief foray into Sarcoex's Haunted - Beta Release. After nearly two hours running around doing not much of all however, I found myself to be quite bored. This feels like a canvas painted with some beautiful japenese-esque horror (modern, not medieval), with so much going for it, and so much room for expansion. Definitely a game I will come back to past the beta-release to have the wits scared clear out of me. Minor…
