Backstory:

My name is Sarcoex Bloodrun I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and suffers in periods with high anxiety. When I am stressed I can see and hear things which aren't normally there, it all seems real to me, but others around hasn't seen the horrors I have seen. I just want these “monsters” to go away. My therapist have suggested I take some time for myself, take walks in the mountains or just go on vacation. I have decided to visit my fathers old work place, it is an abandoned research center in the mountains, I can't remember to name if the mountains, but I have visited the place many times. I know how to get there. My father disappeared when working on a project, and the research center was closed some time after the incident. I have tried to talk to his supervisors, but they can't say anything because the information is “classified”. The research center has since been made a public park. I have visited it a few times, but has always been crowded with tourists, I don't like crowds. Some say it's cursed, some say it's haunted. Some say they have even seen ghosts there. It doesn't make sense, they may suffer from hallucinations as I, that's the only way to see it. But can so many be wrong? May it be that some “ hallucinations” are actually real? The monsters I have seen, are they real or just hallucinations? But why haven't I seen the ghosts when so many have? And why haven't anyone seen the “monsters” I have seen? Maybe some entities can choose to show themselves to some, and be hidden from others?

I have decided to camp in the park for a few days, there is a building there I can sleep in, so I don't have to bring a tent. Let's hope I can relax enough for the “monsters” to hide themselves.

Sarcoex is Haunted is a free roaming, psychological horror game. It has a creepy and mysterious atmosphere and design. The game is not full of "jump-scares", but rather play's with the player's mind; paranoia, anxiety, hopelessness, psycothic events and more.

You can buy early access to the game here: Desura.com, at a discounted price while the game is in alpha or beta. The full version will be a bit more expensive (not much :) ). You also have the choice to download a DRM free installation file after you have bought early access. The release is currently only for Windows.

The current prices are:

  • 8.99 USD
  • 8.99 AUD
  • 6.99 EUR
  • 5.99 GBP

You can use Google to convert a currency, ex: '8.99 USD to NOK' -> 49.1536174 Norwegian kroner

What happens after the final release? We will continue to develop more maps, new stories, fix more bugs and add new features, all included as patches to the final release.

Explore

Explore the mountains to discover what horrors and mysteries lurks within. Explore, solve puzzles, freak out and have fun.

Solve

The gameplay is puzzle, exploration and investigation based. The goal of the gameplay is to make the player think, instead of act;  "What WAS that?", "That's creepy.", "Hope it's not following me or watching me." The player will be dragged in and be interested and freaked out.

Discover

You have limited battery on your flashlight, you need to use the flashlight to be able to solve some of the puzzles. Batteries are found by exploring and solving puzzles. You can solve the puzzles in what order that you find most suitable. If you fail a puzzle, you can't restart it, the story simply adapts to your failure, or success, if you manage to solve a puzzle. Like the first puzzle at the start of Bard's Tale (in the small prison),  PS2 and Android version.

Breath

If you have a microphone, the game can monitor it, and find out if you breath heavily, screams, panicks or if you are just calm (based on pitch and volume).

Play

Dynamic random events; on a playthrough you can trigger certain events and on other playthroughs those events may not be triggered at all. A different experience almost every time you play.

Linux

Beginning in May Linux development of Sarcoex is Haunted starts.

Testing

As a tester you will get the chance to test both the Linux and the Windows version of the game, and you will also get a free copy of the game on Desura. 10 testers has been invited, more will be invited in Q3. When the next round of testers is accepted, all declined and new applications will be reviewed.

Hi- enjoying the game so far-it's really coming together, so keep tweaking it, and it will be awesome! I have a couple of questions about the game: most important being that there seems to be no way to exit the game unless you leave it in windowed view, or to save? When I press "escape" button nothing happens (unless I have my inventory open, then it closes it). Also-can I open any of the doors? I am not sure what the "action" button is-I have stood in front of doors and pressed every button! I am enjoying the game so far, just not sure exactly what I am doing, and how to run, open doors (if you can) save progress, oh, and turn my flashlight on! Let me know if any of these things are working yet, and if so what button to press :) Thanks!

If I buy the alpha version, do I get the free update/download to the beta version, and also the final release? I understand purchasing the alpha version, helps the developers to fund the game, which I love the idea of supporting. However, if I have to purchase the game again, after it is completed, I would rather wait. The game looks great and I am excited to play. I added it to my cart and am just awaiting a response from a fellow member or Andre "Sarcoex" Nilsen aka the developer :) Thanks!

Yes, all versions are included when you buy the alpha version. If you have bought the alpha, you will get access to the beta version when it's released, and the final release when that is released. In short term; buying the alpha (early access); you'll get the full version and access to test the game from alpha->beta->release. :)

It's part of the hallucination the main character has. All part of the experience, it is always looking at you, and that can creep the most of people out; when you know something is watching, but you don't know what it is, or how it got there. :)

Is there a goal in the game that can be achieved ? Is Linux Mint also applicable for BETA testing of your game ? I am still not sure weather to apply for β-testing or not.

All Linux distributions are applicable for beta testing, as long as they are supported by Unity3D, since Mint is based of Ubuntu, I would guess it will run well.
The goal is to explore the mountains, discover clues on what has happened there, experience the psychotic moments (random) your character have, solve puzzles, get rewards (batteries and clues, and more). Freak out.
