Hi there!

RWR version 0.99 marks the spot where we consider feature development, and largely content too, complete for what comes to the single player/small scale coop campaign. From this point on, only minor changes will go through into that part of the game, some vehicle texture work, more AI dialogue, tweaking map and campaign win moments, things like that.

RWR 0.99

That means that the campaign is becoming complete with 9 regular maps and 2 special maps for final missions, with the very final mission being introduced in this update. The other major addition this time is the faction specific vehicle models for APC, tank and jeep. Big thanks go to harrified for the two new tank models, awesome work there.

RWR 0.99

Other than those, there have been several fixes, some new support added for stuff specific to the new final mission, and new stuff for modding; see the change log over here.

What's next then? Possibility for remote profiles / profile sharing and online Invasion teamkill penalty mode have been hot topics lately, which I will be working on for the next weeks targeting 0.99.1 update still on this year's side. Minimodes development continues as well, as does the usability tweaking.

In other news, RWR made it to top 100 here in indiedb's own Indie of the Year 2014! Voting is still going on for about a day, so if you haven't voted RWR yet, now's the time!

Did my first online match today with 2 people from finland. I am in hawaii, and only had a couple of lag incidents.

Very fun. I must say it is the most fun I have had playing an online game.

rating is still 10/10

Oh how we need more games centered around a good AI. That makes games still playable with your (few) friends after the community and official support are gone.

Don't know if you guys are planning to at all, but I think it would be pretty cool and add to immersion if you could only see enemies in you or you teammates line of sight. Would add better stealth gameplay.

There has been some discussion about such a feature, it would be added as an option at the game start whether it is used or not.

While making the soldiers hidden based on player line of sight would be a pretty simple thing to add, the feature started to get a little carried away by also making the LOS hide everything else too with a fog of war -like thing.

I hope we'll get to try even the simpler method sooner than later, it surely would be interesting to see how it affects the gameplay.

This has been discussed. This might be a mod at some point.

I played the demo of this game and found it pretty good, but I got a little bored of it after playing for about thirty minutes and I'd want to get at least 5 hours worth of entertainment from a game I purchase.
This game seems interesting and I'd like your opinion on whether or not I should get it.

The demo is slimmed-down and singleplayer-only part of the full beta, and with only one map and no vehicles. Eventhough you should have fun for more than 30 minutes. Else the game may not be for you. We will add much more content to the game in upcoming versions which, for sure won't be boring (smaller PVP only maps, armored vehicles, boats, tanks, bazookas, mines, etc...)

Anybody's opinion? :]
Well if you got board after 30 mins this might not be for you maybe try another 30 minutes to see if it gets better. I think there is certainly more than 5 hours of game play in the demo the full version has online play and premium and extra content so def more than 5hrs but of course that's if your into it.
Speaking of online play how big is the community online are there at least a half dozen servers with games happening throughout the day?
Also are local and computer to computer games possible?

If you happen to have friends interested in playing RWR too, even 2-4 player coop can be a huge blast. Anyone can activate the server in their own game session, just make sure your router & firewall are configured accordingly.

LAN gaming is also supported through manual IP setting.

Yesterday evening there were up to 13 players playing at the same time on a european server (record a few weeks back was 37). The community is growing slowly but surely and you can be sure that in a few weeks (when the linux client is done along with the dedicated servers) the online servers will start to get crowded. For now we have to admit that there aren't too many people playing online. The best time to play online for now is at the evening (european time) but this will change soon enough when the dedicated servers will be released and we will have servers all around the world.
I made a tool yesterday, which monitors the online servers without having to start the game to see if someone is playing. It informs you with a tooltip or/and a sound alert once a server has reached the amount of players you are aiming for. Get it here:

Furthermore you can check the online servers here as well:

This is a great game. I've described it to friends as a combination between General Chaos, Cannon Fodder, a rather obscure but innovative game called Net War and once vehicles are added, even a touch of Warhawk. On top of all of this, the developer is great and really listens to the community.
